The Driver is the Difference

Thought I'd share this here, and poke a bit of fun :)

Whats interesting truly is with the small mods done, no go fast, but just suspension for wheel hop, and a OF X-pipe, and some weight reduction, most notable front sway bar, then the spare, jack, ect....the driver did this well. The DA was +2500 ft for that pass.

Hehe here is one where drivers, itl makes the difference :) Enjoy !

I will say I like the sripping on that car with the color.

Definitely nice. The driver makes all the difference for sure.

However, you're leaving out important details, here's the post of what the guy did to his car:
Quote:

"Im still getting used to launching on the factory 18's but after some practice I managed a 1.926 60 ft and a 12.960 @ 107.09 mph.

The only bolt ons are my X-pipe and Steeda upper control arm.

The car is untuned as well.

I did pull some weight out of the car. With the front swaybay, spare tire /jack assembly, weights taken off of the rear and a 1/4 tank of gas it came in at 3380 tonight. I weigh 165 so my race weight is about 3545."
Impressive for sure, but more modifications (weight reduction) then you're leading us to believe.

Nice for sure though. :)

Meh well besides the front sway bar, I never race with my spare, jack, and other nick nacks in car as well. True though, I'll edit my first post.

What are the weights on the rear? He didn't really explain when someone else asked him either, just said that some have 'em.

Hmm I went out and looked at my 08...I truly have no ideal...I never seen them before...new for 2010 maybe ?? I mean I see nothing by my LCA's or Uppers...or inside the spring/shock wells...So I have no clue.

DeathChill 07-05-2009 02:44 PM

This is what he said:

The weight only came on some of the 05 and newer cars. They bolt in above the lower control arms on the rear. My 08 didn't have them, but the 2010 did.
I wonder what the hell they are?

Black GT 07-05-2009 02:45 PM

Must have been a bracket race on the second video, the Mustang kept tapping his brakes.

08GT500 07-05-2009 02:46 PM

There are weights on the axle housing I would asssume to dampen vibration. Some Shelby owners have removed them.

That being said, and no hating on GM's as I previously owned a Corvette, the 12.96 pass is impressive simply due to the fact that the Mustang is down 111 horspower to the LS3. A GT is much lighter than a GT500 or a Camaro/Challenger. It will be interesting to see what the results are if the horsepower on them is increased for 2011.

garagelogic 07-05-2009 02:48 PM

There are two small weighs that are bolted to the rear end on S197 cars (where the LCA and shocks mount). From everything I've heard, they are there for NVH reasons only. I removed them from my 2005 Mustang GT and I never noticed any difference. Combined, they might weigh 3-5lbs. I still have them on my Shelby, as I see no real advantage to removing them.

Ninjak 07-05-2009 02:49 PM

Ahh ok. Well my 08 do not have them. So makes sense I guess. I wonder why on some, and not others then....

Unfair 07-13-2009 09:57 AM

Pretty impressive numbers. i like

KarFan 07-13-2009 02:44 PM

Good run. Yes driver is most important as it takes one to pull a sub 2.0 60ft and hit all the shifts. Traction helps too.

So will 2010 be the first MY GT in bone stock off the showroom floor trim to take a 12 sec slip home.... Would seem possible.

MuscleCarz 07-13-2009 04:11 PM

Here is the progress of the guys car in the first vid.

Quote:

2010 Gt deluxe Cloth seats, standard stereo....... the only two options are the 3.73 gear package and the Active anti-theft system.
Kona Blue Metallic with Charcoal Black interior.

Bone stock with 200 miles on the odometer it went 13.3 @ 105 wheel hopping real bad!
With some break in miles a Pypes off road X-pipe and Steeda Hardcore upper control arm , untuned 12.96 @107 on the stock 18's

Here is a video of it.

The latest additions are the Weld Alumn star fronts 17x4 with Hoosier street tires and 16x9 Weld Pro star XPs with 26x11.50 Et streets. I also dropped in a K&N air filter.

In this trim it went consistant 12.50's @ 108.5 with a best of 12.511 @108.58 with a 1.665 60 foot time.

I am very confident to have this thing in the elevens within a week or two tops.

The next mods are 4.56's Electric waterpump, and an alumnium driveshaft.

This guy wants 11's with the addition of 4.56's and electric water pump.:headbang:

Shadowsong 07-14-2009 02:59 AM
