DIY: Here it is Dashboard ambient lighting ABL

As featured on homepage.

Hey guys, well I was one that was bummed about the ABL not being on the dash. However been doing some research and got my order in today and did a quick mockup. :headbang:

NOTE: This is not a finished representation of what it is going to look like, I am screwing around with different size lighting, colors and the proper way to hard wire it and run all the wiring. Currently this is run off of the lighter plugin and looks like only two very small holes will be drilled "out of sight so you will not see it")

Once I figure out the easiest way and right size lighting I will give out all the information. I do not want to say use this particular brand, color, or size and make it look like crap. My big thing with all my mods is I want them to look like they came from the factory and not some riged contraption.

On a side note this will be a very inexpensive mod!

Anyway here are some teaser pics, I hope you like!!!!!

sweet man, let us know when you get it figured out.

awsum, keep us informed, and make sure it won't void your warranty in any way!

What would be cool if the ambient lighting was inside the panel making the whole thing glow instead of it just being a line..

What are you using to light it? LEDs or fiber? There is nothing behind that panel from the factory right? There is a space for the light to go through on the stock trim piece, right?

What is it with people and warranty? If you want to 100% keep your warranty then DON'T MODIFY YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!

Awesome.

Can't wait to see the finished project.

That might be a little bit too bright at night.

Teccboxx - you are the "Monarch of Modifications" - once again you're blazing new trails - this time blazed in ABL...

Looking forward to seeing and having the instructions for the finished dash ABL.

CamaroSkooter 08-04-2009 09:08 AM

I seem to recall someone stating that near or above the fusebox is a plug that looks to be where ABL would have been plugged into had the engineers gotten it figured out in time.

Have you tried using that for the power source rather than doing any drilling?

Look very nice
