The day of reckoning has arrived: Chevy's new Camaro has left the assembly line keen to butt heads with the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and other pretenders to the pony car throne. We tested two SS V-8s to find if the long wait has been worthwhile.

Quote: "Except for a slightly lazy electronic throttle, there's nothing to complain about in the power department, as the manual transmission Camaro SS easily thumps both the Challenger SRT8 and the latest Mustang GT."

Nuff said.

One nice touch is an LED light pipe that runs around the dash to uplift the evening-cruise mood.

Seems they got to test out a fully working ABL in theirs..Too bad we are not going to be so lucky..

The Camaro SS's combination of price, performance, and panache topples the existing muscle car order.

The Hemi-powered Challenger SRT8 is too heavy to keep pace and the face-lifted Mustang GT is trumped by Camaro's sophistication and speed.

Loyal Chevy fans who've waited six years for this day finally have the car that they deserve.

The new Camaro also has the breadth of character needed to draw defectors back from the import brink.

I am extremely disappointed with the 1/4 mile numbers in all of these reviews.

Visual_Perfection 03-20-2009 06:22 PM

ya but look at the MPH in them.. that's a high 12's capable car.

I just compare it to the numbers they get with the Mustang and Challenger.. the Camaro IS faster than both..so if challengers/mustangs are pulling better times off than what the magazines are posting, so will the Camaro.

Blownhotrodder 03-20-2009 06:26 PM

Uh yea, some were saying 11's stock possibly. I told them they were drinking too much.

TJ91 03-20-2009 06:28 PM

they even have the test cars being misleading with the ABL. Uf you look at all the other rad tests, they have been given cars with cloth panels and such.
I dont understand why they havnt given all production intent cars.
Some are production intent, like the 1SS and so, but others are still missing key parts

So that when they do the FULL tests, GM can give them production complete cars that are made right and they can praise the "improvements"!

Does AutomobileMag Know something we don't?

So I was reading AutomobileMag's review of the SS and found that they mentioned ambient lighting going the width of entire dashboard...

I was under the impression that it was door panels only... Are they smoking, or is something afoot?

I mentioned this in two posts of mine. Apparently they got one with working ABL to test, perhaps so they would give better reviews of the interior..Who knows.. Others got 2SS's with leather seats and cloth panels it seems..
