1LE Spoiler Matte Black or Satin Black???
Hey guys, I bought a convertible spoiler and I am trying to decide if I should paint it body color or satin black. I am doing the ZL1 rockers/diffuser and 1LE splitter so I am thinking that a satin black would go well. My car is a '13 Victory Red SS. The spoiler I bought cheap on ebay and it's dark blue right now. When my rockers go for paint I will be getting the spoiler done also. Help me decide. Pictures of actual 1LE's would be great especially Victory Red ones. I'm not trying to impersonate the 1LE or ZL1, I just like some of the styling cues of each one. That's why I went with a convertible spoiler instead of the ZL1 or 1LE. You can see my thread on this here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269332
Thanks for the help and all opinions are welcome. |
I would wrap it, and here's why. Every time someone/something touches a satin/matte paint it makes it a little bit shinier. If you get a scuff/rub mark on it you cannot buff it out because buffing it would make it shiny.

I believe the matte black matches the 1LE front spoiler, ZL1 rockers. Good question though on the 1LE spoiler, it's a different color then vinyl hood.

The rear spoiler on the 1LE is painted smoke gray.

From the first page of the 1LE sticky at the top of this section. Thought the splitter was gray too.
FRONT SPLITTER PAINTED IN SMOKE GRAY This 1LE front splitter provides a unique appearance while helping to reduce front lift significantly. REAR SPOILER IN SMOKE GRAY The rear spoiler in Smoke Gray adds to the aggressive look and aerodynamic efficiencies of 1LE. |
I have the splitter in my garage right now and it's black and not painted at all.

Must have been slated for production and got axed by the bean counters last minute. Is the rear spoiler painted at all? I expected smoke gray to color match the vinyl and be painted cause a wrapped spoiler might not stay looking new for long.

Sorry, off topic. Does anyone know if the 1LE rear spoiler is the same exact spoiler on RS and SS cars (aside from color)?

Chevy just mentions the rear spoiler and front splitter as being black with no mention of paint. My bad with the smoke gray fiasco. :) |
