What should I do next, cam or gears?

I have a JRE 415 setup now and I'm thinking of the next mod! So, I really can't afford both so which would you go with next, a cam or gears? I'm thinking either the JRE 470 blower cam or LFE 3.91's. This will be done next year as my budget will allow! Eventually I'll get both but for now gotta settle for 1 or the other!

if you put in a cam you will thinking the whole time i wish i had gears.

So with a cam will I loose a little low end therby wishing I had gears? Oh, I do mostly DD street driving with an occasional track run so I'm looking for the best street fun!

Gears woulb be sweet, but the cam totally changes the car. I say cam. A reccomendation though, get the biggest one u can within reason, u dont want to spend all that money and be dissapointed with the HP numbers or the idle not choppy enough etc,,,,good luck

more horsepower is always better, do the cam first

THIS + 1, I put a moderate cam because i knew a FI was in my future. The TSP cams sound wicked. My SNL performance V4 cam completely changed my car. It is simply awesome. I never turn on my radio unless on the interstate with the cruise on. The sound of the motor with that lope and the headers is a lot of fun. I gained over 80 HP with the cam and headers.

Another vote for cam. TSP231/236. Good luck, either way you cant go wrong

O ya CAM!!! BullF-16, u get that charger on ur beast yet??

HufferSS 09-20-2011 06:45 PM

I would do the CAM.....but I would ask Jannetty for his opinion on which one. Be honest with him on how you drive the car....way too many guys get wrapped up in the peak horsepower but what really matters is power under the curve.

ssmike 09-20-2011 06:47 PM

Yea, I'll definatly be consulting with Ted! For now though just wanted to get some opinions from my C5 peeps!

Not till the 29th of this month. Its killing me...but allowing me to do lots of research on how not to blow this motor up. SNL performance in Fort Worth are gonna set me up so I dont.

So far the concensus is to go with a cam next! Anyone else have an opinion or experience?

NickJRE 09-21-2011 08:00 AM

Cam :)

Pollock 09-21-2011 08:04 AM

I have the cam you are wanting to put in. I do not think the car needs different gears for that cam. My car runs great the way it is.

NickJRE 09-21-2011 08:12 AM

I've driven that cam without gears quite a few times and I've really been in awe of how well it drives. Ted has the tune nailed for that cam.
