I used a V1 in 6 One Lap Of Americas. Never got a ticket, and not from lack of trying. The V1 was great. Had a K40 in an '87 928 Porsche for a while. It worked well but lagged way behind the V1 in alert times. That said the V1 does false more than I would like. The number of radars tracked and the direction they are coming from feature has saved me from several elaborate traps where LEF will show you one radar and hide the second further down the road. The V1 lets me know that there is still one up ahead and to stay slow.

Have worked in the sales side of things and have tried them all K40 always surpassed the others. I will say that V1 is right there with them but K40 will pay for any tickets that you get with their detectors which puts them out front for me.

Agreed! I have the K40 Combo and love it. This was a solid thread with a lot of information for people to make good decisions on, but I def. stand behind K40!

Someone should update these tests. The new BEL STI Magnum is now the most sensitive windshield mount radar detector out now. The Laser Interceptor shifter now can jam all guns to very close or JTG.

There's one in the DIY thread. I used it to install the invisicord in my 2010 Camaro SS for the Passport.

It's all there with pictures and everything.

Do bear in mind to check the wiring diagram as some of the wires are a little different now for the 2012 and 2013 models as well as the convertible.

Look for the right colors in the wiring loom.

I just saw this myself. Valentine seems to be the most popular on here, but rates the lowest. What's up with that?

That database helps alert you when approaching speed cameras and red light cameras.

I'm not sure why. I have had the Passport for a number of years (starting with the 8500 then recently the 9500ci) and am always impressed with the range and sensitivity of the unit. The 9500 is awesome because it "learns" to tune out false positives, so I don't get a lot of noise.

GPS in a RD is another tool to be used but you might want to look at this.

My easiest response to this is radar detectors are a waste of $$$. The only time they will be useful is if a patrol unit has a moving radar -- and in that case you hopefully aren't speeding next to a marked police car. The other situation would be if your local department has "speed traps" but the good thing with those is they have to announce them before doing them via news media.

Spend the money on mods-- leave the radar detectors to kids who want to show off.

My detector has saved me several times, paid for itself several times already. I wasn't showing off, just cruising on the highway.

Why should rocky mountain radar be avoided like the plague?

Good question. Someone gave me one and I stuck it on the window and use it. I'm not habitualy heavy footed, but it has saved me a few tickets and the range is outstanding. If I were to buy one, I would not have bought this one though. It's great at finding drug stores and liquor stores and banks.

Destructo09 11-04-2014 08:59 PM

Because they can't prove that their garbage works. It might detect some radar, but it won't save you from laser.

It's probably medicore at best for radar even given the price. Good detectors are not cheap. However now days you can find refurb RX65s and Escort 8500s for the ~150 range which is a pretty good deal.

Chaotic73 01-03-2015 06:10 PM

I sold my Passport 8500 x50 and was going to get the Passport Max 2, but came across a great deal last week on a new Passport 9500ix for $319.99. It was $349.99 a few weeks ago and it's now $358.49. I thought it was a great deal and couldn't pass it up, plus I got free 2 day shipping with my Prime membership.

I just posted in the DYI section on how to install the Passport 9500ci LED readout into your rearview mirror...:)
