Will auto trans get 2nd gear rubber

I'm still trying to take it easy on my car and have less than 1000 miles, so I haven't really opened it up too hard yet. I've noticed the trans may shift faster in Sport mode, but not much firmer than Tour. Will the auto trans get 2nd gear rubber under heavy throttle?

It grips nicely in all gears surprisingly due to the tires with or without traction ;)

Yeah, but will it chip the rear tires in 2nd gear? The tires definately grip better than when I first got the car.

I would hope so, my SS chirped 3rd with a tune.

I guess I'll have to wait until the 1500 mile mark to find out. Surely another forum member has run theirs hard enough to find out.

mine doesn't...shifts hard and quick though

The problem is if you let the trans shift itself, you are starting in 2nd and shifting into 3rd. To go from 1st to 2nd, you need to use tap shift and first is pretty much useless.

Mine will

i've launched hard and gone 0-120 mph. no real chirp. the computer pulls power so u don't put it in a ditch.
I was on the highway Sunday and punched it at about 60mph. The tranny downshifted, the supercharger got spooled up and started screaming! The traction control lights shot up for a few seconds. Thats power... breaking the tires loose at 60+

Slingshot, I understand from the owners manual that Sport mode starts in first gear and has quicker shifts as opposed to Touring mode which starts in second gear. :iono:

Trans. goes to first gear any time except when in Tap Shift mode.
While using the Tap Shift feature,
the vehicle will have firmer,
quicker shifting for increased
performance. The driver may
use this for sport driving or when
climbing or descending hills, to
stay in gear longer, or to downshift
for more power or engine braking.
The transmission will only allow
you to shift into gears appropriate
for the vehicle speed and engine
revolutions per minute (rpm). The
transmission will not automatically
shift to the next higher gear if the
engine rpm is too high. If shifting
is prevented for any reason, the
message SHIFT DENIED will
appear in the DIC, indicating that
the transmission has not shifted
gears. While in the Tap Shift
mode, the transmission will not
automatically downshift on hard
acceleration
When coasting to a stop, the
V6 transmission will automatically
downshift to 1 (First) gear, and the
V8 transmission will automatically
downshift to 2 (Second) gear.
A 1 (First) gear start can be selected
using the Tap Shift controls on
V8 models. When accelerating from
a stop, the transmissions will hold
these gears until the driver manually
selects higher gears using the Tap
Shift controls.

Nope, even in Sport mode anytime you let the trans downshift itself it will only go to 2nd gear. Even when using Tapshift the trans will only auto down to 2nd, you have to manually put it to first.

The only time the trans will start out in 1st by itself, is on a cold start and putting it into a forward gear for the first time.

So, i guess the car doesn't feel as quick from a stop because I've never used first gear after the first shift after starting the car. It won't get rubber in second gear because it is really third. I wonder if a tune can correct this. To drag race, would I have to put in manual mode using the gear selector, manually downshift to first at a stop, and then shift to drive after taking off to let the trans shift itself?

Just start in 2nd gear ... First gear is only good for about 30mph before hitting the limiter. You will just have to experiment what works best for you to get off the line. I've tried first gear and it just goes up in smoke pretty fast.
