SHOULD I TRADE IN MY 70 CHEVELLE SS?

Hi Guys,
Need some advise, Want to make a smart decision, I have a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 automatic Astro blue white stripes, Great car but have this craving to buy a ZL1 Camaro. Is it wise to off my Chevelle for a ZL1? Just need some car guys to lead me on the right path. Thanks! |
Yes, absolutely. I fell in love with a restored 1967 Chevelle and turned it into a faux SS. 454, 400 turbo, 12 bolt posi and Nantucket Blue. I freaking loved that car. But that car left me stranded, was a handful in the rain and never handled with a flip. The ZL1 gives you all the look and feel of old muscle only better, faster and more reliable. So yes absolutely!

You should try to sell it out right vs trading it in. You will not get what its worth on the trade in. Good luck, that's a tough decision.

How much you want for the chevelle? My father is looking for one.

NOOOOOOOOO Don't do it. A ZL1 will not for a long time be worth maybe never sentimentally as to what the Chevelle is depending on your age. Took me forever to find me another Camaro from my youth and if this car is your youth DO NOT DO IT. Your new Camaro will come in time if you are older trust me it will come.

As already said, never trade it in. Sell it outright.
if it was me, I would find away to keep the Chevelle and buy a Camaro. That is a gorgeous car. |
I would keep the Chevelle and find a way to pick up a new ZL. Don't get rid of one to get the other IMHO!

That depends...
If its a faux SS yes trade it (or better yet, sell it on your own as armysig said), BUT if its originally SS 396 I would hesitate to part with it.
If you can wait, the used ZL1's will be dropping in price and maybe you can make the payments. However, an original '70 Chevelle SS should continue to appreciate in value!! :chevy: |
I own muscle cars.
If your Chevelle is complete numbers matching and original, it is priceless and cannot be replaced at any price. If it is not, you can sell it for a nice price to use for the ZL1. Happy Hunting! :) |
I would keep that Chevelle, that's a beautiful car. Keep it you can always look for a used ZL1 something with not a lot of miles. Also like it was said before you'd be better off selling it out right if that's what you end up doing, you'll never get face value from a dealership. good luck with your decision..

Wow, Guys, Thanks for the imput. I really needed this. It is a numbers matching car and completely restored. It's not my youth car I have always been a camaro guy. I have a 1969 Camaro ss 396 which was my youth car. I picked up the Chevelle as it too is a one year car body style in the muscle car era. My wife says if I get another car I have to sell one That why I needed all of your advise. My only Vice is cars and sometimes can't get that itch scratched. I had the car appraised in 2008 for $60,000.00 but I know the market was hit with the economy. I would need $46,000.00 if I were to sell it to purchase a ZL1. Thinking, Thinking, Thinking...

New rule: sweetie, if you want a new pair of shoes, you have to get rid of the old pair...
