Anyone install steering controls on a 1SS???

I would like to install steering wheels controls on my 1SS but i have not heard of anyone attempting this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not yet. The PDIM for the 1SS is different and has different wiring connectors and nobody has figured out yet how to wire in the other PDIM. Plus even if you did manage it, the dealers do not at this time have the programming to activate the PDIM.

Wow, thanks for the info. I guess we'll just wait........

I guess the question is, are the steering wheel controls wired to the PDIM or to the radio?

Some of us have successfully installed the PDIM accessory into our 1SS which replaces the non PDIM wiring harness so there might be hope.

Are there drawings/diagrams that show wiring in the steering wheel?

Uh-oh...are we going to have another 2-3 month project on our hands slick rick? :bellyroll:

Haha, I read both your post regarding the PDIM earlier today. Thanks for all the hardwork.

I know nothing about the electrical diagram on the Camaro period. Where can i look up the part number for the steering wheel controls???

We might

I emailed Eric at Hibbard Chevy asking about the part(s). Just waiting for his reply to see how much $ we're looking at to start the project.

Cool, I will call my local dealership here in San Diego as well.

slick rick 11-09-2009 07:25 PM

OK here are the part numbers I got from Eric:

92219336 radio control switch
92219335 cruise control switch
92236310 harness

I'm not sure why he gave me the cruise control switch part number since the 1SS comes with it. The only thing I can think of is that the harness is different between the 1SS and 2SS so it has a different connector. I will talk to him on Saturday to try to find out.

Also, the switches show up on GM Parts Direct, but the harness does not. Not sure why that is :iono:

Cool, $25.45 ain't bad at all. The harness pricing is not available. Thanks for the info. not looking to pricey so far.

Assuming they could hook up wouldnt you need the other steering wheel to do it? Or are the switch spots there but covered in the 1SS?

Blank spot. I'm assuming it wouldn't be all that hard to swap out the pieces.

I haven't done the steering wheel controls from a 2SS into a 1SS, but I did swap my controls from my 2SS into a 1LT or 2LT steering wheel (had cruise control but not radio controls and was not leather wrapped). I had the LT steering wheel reshaped and wrapped in carbon fiber and leather. I then had to put my 2SS controls into it. That black plastic spot where there aren't any controls pops out with the removal of the whole silver plastic part then the controls swap right in no problem. Hope this helps.

Here's a picture:

Now with 2SS controls in it:
