V6 sound
For those of u thinking of buying a v6, here's a little v8 persuasion.

I had a V8 in my IROC. Loved the sound. Doesn't mean I don't like the sound of the V6.

A v6 doesn't even remotely compare to the sound of a v8.

ok so what's the point of this thread? :iono:
pointing out that a v6 doesn't sound like a v8? Captain Obvious to the rescue! |
[QUOTE=diddiyo;112106]ok so what's the point of this thread? :iono:
pointing out that a v6 doesn't sound like a v8? Captain Obvious to the rescue![/QU ur audio pleasure and to convince u to buy a v8 through the power of suggestive advertising. Also to show u that u can make ur v8 sound good with long tubes and a cat back or cut outs. |
I never said anything about the V6 sounding like a V8. I merely said that I like both. And I'm sorry, but its going to take a lot more than sound to make me buy a V8. Mostly, they'll have to give it a base price around 20k, which just won't happen. And, I hate to break it to you, but this thread will convince... well, nobody. ESPECIALLY since most of the regulars over here on the V6 side of the fence have already owned or do already own a V8.

Take a peek at the video entitled "Elie V6", it's the third thumbnail in. http://www.gm.ca/static/english/vehi...maro&adv=79342 I think THIS V6 sounds very much like a V8! (Not your V8; but you modified it, right?). No Camaro V6 buyer has to suffer from "V8-sound envy" any longer. :D |

We could argue about this all day, or we could all enjoy the vid clip, which was the original intent. |
And here I thought your original intent was to tell us all that our engine of choice sucked and that we should buy YOUR engine of choice? :iono:

That was the impression I had as well. |
I've owned mostly V8 cars/trucks over the years. I am not buying the Camaro V6 because of how it sounds. If I want a real V8 sound, I'm going to buy a '67 Camaro or a '55 Bel Air and put a 502 big block in it with a full exhaust system with no restrictive intake or emissions crap to get in the way of how it sounds. If I had even a slight concern with how it sounded, I wouldn't even consider buying something that was built after 1970. I have yet to hear a newer car with an after-cat system that sounds anywhere as good as the old cars. (no offense to anyone driving around in a 4th gen).

Even if the V6 doesn't sound like a V8, you can't deny that it isn't aggressive or muscular sounding - especially for a V6 (and will be even more so once I get my flowmasters on). The only thing bad I have to say about the sound is the virtual lack-thereof until about 3-4000 rpms. Just way too quiet in the low RPMS. But, the resonators will be deleted on my car (which should help with this) and even then, you'll get to hear the amazing turbo scream during that time.
- Xanthos P.S. - I agree with the above. My 86 had the entire emissions system removed and breathed through shorties and straight pipe all the way back to a glass pack on each side. Sounded great. But, I still like the sound of the V6, just in different ways. |

a) i don't need a 400hp car to begin with. b) i don't have the money. c) even if i would have the money by the time the camaro comes out i prolly wouldn't spend it on the V8. d) requires premium gas and has worse gas-mileage. coming from a beat up '95 cavalier, the V6 will do perfectly fine for me. |
