Extended Warranty

Has anyone purchased the extended? Are their different ones? What's the cost? Also does GM offer prepaid maintenance agreements?

Super Sport 05-17-2009 05:54 PM

GM is currently offering 3 years of free Goodwrench maintenance on any 2010 year model here in Canada. I don't know about the U.S., but I'm assuming it's the same deal.

Extended warranties, however, are a scam. Chances are by the time your warranty is over you'll be wanting to change the car or add some power to it.

i dont know if you can even buy them right off the bat, i think you have to wait a certain time. and there are different types alot of it is based on what type of car as well.

GM does offer extended coverage at purchase time (or any time within the original warranty) here is the states. AAA also offers it in some states. My credit union also has it.

i can see extending it to maybe 5 years. But past that you dont know if you will have the car crash it etc. And their warranties are not a cure all anyways.

I think he's talking about the dealer add on type, not the kind you purchase after your car's new warranty runs out. But they are a scam. It's just a way for finance people at dealerships to make bigger comissions off you. Search edmunds or this site for stories from people who used to be the back room finance guys and they will tell youuts money down the toilet

You can buy a GM ext warranty during purchase here in Canada. When we leased my wife's Cobalt for 4 yrs we knew the orig warranty would run out before we ended lease so we grabbed it.

Not all extended warranties are scams.

Is a good example of one that is legit.

There are also SOME of the aftermarket ones that are legit as well.
The FTC took care of most of the scam warranty places last week thankfully.

I honestly still don't see the point of buying an extended warranty. I think most of us are just WAITING for the day the warranty runs out so we can start doing all sorts of crazy things to this already crazy V8.

Agree that is legit. Believe it or not it is negotiable also. I had it on my Z71 Tahoe 2003 model. I even had $0 deductible and it payed for itself.

I bought the ex warranty, it's 5yr. I was able to get the gms discount on it by buying now. $800

The only Extended Warranty I'd ever buy is on my g/f. And that's only if she could be replaced with a better, hotter one.

RickRay 05-17-2009 08:22 PM

I got the Extended Warranty in Canada 72 Months 60,000 KMS $2000 . Also Replacement Warranty $2200 72 Months.

Girlfriend 2.0 - interesting upgrade. It would not be compatible with the operating system of my Wife v1.0 though, which I've had installed for nearly 14 years. :sm0:
