6 speed shifter on new cars
For those of you who have a car already with a 6 speed, I assume that it is the stock shifter and not the Hurst, which was on constraint. How do you like it? Do you think you will keep the original shifter or get a Hurst installed when it becomes available? When I sat in the V6 Camaro at the Atlanta Auto Show, the gears felt good shifting, with throws about as short as the Hurst in my 02 Firebird, but of course the car wasn't moving.

Yep, stock. :burnrubber:

Hurst shifter because I don't like the leather shifter with leather boot look and feel. I'd rather have that sexy pool ball shifter.:D

me too

No complaints on stock. Keep in mind, transmission in V6 is different than in the V8.
V6 transmission is Aisin. V8 transmission is Tremec (Corvette). I haven't experienced the difference a Short Throw Shifter makes, though. But I have no complaints on the V6 or V8 shift feel or throw. |
The SS that I drag tested had the non-Hurst. It shifted very nicely, mostly due to the tighter throws found in the TR6060 transmission. I didn't see the need for an aftermarket shifter in that car. The flattened softball sized knob was a little weird though.

5 responses and it seems only 2 of you actually own or have driven a stock shifter to give an educated answer. He wanted feedback, not "thoughts".

I like my shifter quite a bit. If it was much shorter I'd be worried about missing shifts. But I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to manual transmissions in cars. I can still run through the gears pretty quickly. I think I'll be sticking with the stock throw. |

Since I won't be drag racing mine (and if I wanted to I would probably opt for the automatic), my gut is that there is no reason to go to the trouble and expense of replacing the stock shifter if it's already pretty good. Just wondering if anybody doesn't like the feel or if the throw is too long. I guess replacing the shift ball could be done without doing the whole shifter if somebody just doesn't like the ball. |

Everybody with a 2010 Camaro has a 6-speed ;) |
I like the stock shifter however, the HURST will be much shorter of a throw....
I have noticed some "minor" hiccups with shifting when I am driving fast, like NOT going into gear correctly... I've noticed it on gears 3 and 5 so far.... Not quite sure what the deal is... Clutch all the way in... right speed, etc, and just doesn't want to get in gear.... I will probably get a hurst when it becomes available from the dealers..... |

Personally, I hate the stock shifter. It's long and sloppy IMO.
I am going to install the hurst, but I want to keep the stock boot and knob..I like them both. |
