Return the Lounges Poll

Since i was involved with "THE V8 LOUNGE" thread since the beginning i have seen it grow into a place that many people went to for what i liked to call unbiased information on every question that was brought up. Since the move to the Off-Topic section the thread has suffered greatly losing its context and mostly its dynamic impact as a helpful thread.
There is a compromise that a fellow member has made to the mods and i think this really explains what were all about and how we feel about the Threads being in the places that they previously were.

"Okay here we go. First off, I want to thank you for working with us instead of basically telling us tough shit. That's what pissed me off and made me want to leave. Now let's get to business with this. I think the help desk is an EXCELLENT idea that will help consolidate the typical "WHAT CAI D00 I US3? PLEEZ HEALP". Since that thread will help trim down the section, I think it should remained un-stickied so we can see when there's a question and we can easily respond to it. Next thing is the lounge. It is useless in the off topic section as I have previously stated in my other posts. The dynamic is completely ruined now. I know you said to try it this way, but I say we try it both ways
Leave the other lounges in off topic, and sticky ours in the V8 section. I think this would be a lot better since A) we'll be happy again and B) we consolidate stupid questions with the help desk. We help you guys out via the help desk, you help us by not wrecking our home on here. There's less clutter in the sections, and we don't annoy you anymore. Win, win in my book. If this model works out, we can implement it with the other lounges and sections where each section has a stickied lounge, and an un-stickied help desk. Let me know what you think
Mike"

Lastly i would like to say that we understand where the mods are coming from, and we understand that there have been complaints about lounges in general, hence the reason for the poll. I would like to thank everyone that has voted and i would also like to thank the mods for all their time and consideration.

SolomonAKOO

EDIT: The compromise would be putting the lounges in the stickies of their respective forums.

You can't leave us in the basement. It's cold in here.:pout:

Well stated Solomon. For all of you that don't realize it, the V8 lounge was the same thing as the help desk... Only the members weren't dejected. We were just hanging out at the shop... That's all. Please be more tolerant.

This is what I posted in our V6 Lounge

I voted yes to bring it back but honestly I don't really care I just always go to my sub. threads and see which ones have updates. Sure it is annoying to sometimes have to scroll all the way to the bottom but it is better than having it be deleted. One thing a really don't like about it is before after posting or reading something in this thread I would back out the the LLT section and look at those threads and now it just makes it a little less convenient since I now have to go all the way back out to the main forum area.

Kj lemme posit this...

We snowballed friends as we went. Someone came in there... Asked a question... Liked what they experienced, then stuck around. Traffic where we are now will kill that dynamic.

I appreciate that. I know if everyone vote one way or another something will be done and i hop that it gets back to how it was. It just seemed to be more effective that way, and i honestly feel that we helped alot of people with any of the questions that they had, and also had alot of fun in there

The V6 lounge was the same way someone who had a question would ask and they would get it answered relatively fast and would return the favor if someone else had a question, sure at points it would get off topic but most threads I read tend to go off topic a bit. I know I've posted questions where I just needed a simple answer where I thought a whole new thread wasn't necessary but that is just me.

I understand the members being able to search and such but honestly how many constant threads do you see about which CAI is better or what tune should I go with. To me it seems like a majority of people don't search because it is easier for them to start a whole new thread. That's why I like the lounges because those numerous threads about which cai is better or what headers are better LT vs shorty or brand x vs brand y can be dwindled down...I'm not computer expert but I'm sure all those numerous threads must take up a lot of space.

Word. We're on the same page sir.

I have a different suggestion, I like the idea of a V8 Help desk and a V6 Help desk where people that have those particular cars can go for technical questions, by question is why have separate V8 lounge or V6 Lounge, I think it would help the community as a whole to just have one Camaro Lounge where everyone can go and just hang out and BS about anything.
Just my 2cents.

You're always a reasonable man, and that's not a bad suggestion. I would only add that it should be in a high traffic area.

We had something close to that before. It was disturbed, so we have to find some kind of solution.

That is actually a good idea i hadn't thought of, if i could change the poll and add that i would. But to the point of thahemp, where would it go so that it was in a high traffic area? Because that honestly was the best thing that both the V8 and V6 lounges had.

Mchlgrrsn 06-29-2013 06:07 PM

There should be 3 lounges. V8. V6. And the camaro5 lounge which should be located in general discussion area. All 3 should be in the stickies. The people who should read the stickies don't LOL. Then when the see the lounge they may actually see the other stickies that they should be reading instead of starting another new thread about them.

Mindz 06-29-2013 06:22 PM

There is a lounge already for people to BS with each other and hang out already. It's called the PWA lounge. It's very active. So active in fact that I had to close the last one at 150,000 posts and start a 4th one.

I get it. It's nice to have a place to bs with your buddies, and if you happen to go off topic, there is nothing wrong with that. But there is a place for it. Having a single thread for everything is a double edged sword.

Someone comes into the help desk and asks a question which is answered promptly and accurately, and then shuffled into oblivion. The next guy comes in an asks the same question. Say you answer with the same helping tone and not belittle him/her for not searching. They have the answer and then go on their merry way. What about the lurkers who prefer anonymity to signing up and posting info, but just want to search for the info, yet are too lazy to hit the "show posts" button on the search. How would these people be able to seek help?

This is a genuine question. I am not saying no, but I'd like to make sure you're not being discriminatory towards some members.

EDIT: What about the detailer's lounge and other groups that want to be able to chat with each other?
