Obviously the sunroof and all associated hardware would be removed, but do y'all think having the sunroof from the factory would mean the roof has more bracing in it that might aid in the support of a t-top, or does it just simply mean the geometry is slightly different and would require a new piece of sheet metal welded in to form the middle bar?

I think the framework is the same on both with and without the sunroof, only the outside roof skin and interior trim is different, other than the sunroof mechanicals...

Can't wait to see the final product, definitely with smoked glass. I think that t-tops fit the Camaro's image more than the sunroof. Now, will a t-tops holder be fabricated in the trunk somehow?

The T Top bag from the thirdgens would probably work. Those were LARGE T Tops--I'm sure these new ones would fit.

I think tinted glass would be awesome!

How about a Targa option like the Vette, just one solid panel to remove. That would be pretty sweet (although I know there would be no room to store it in the car at all).

SMOKED GLASS FOR SURE, SIGN ME UP!!!!!!:)

Doesn't look like much metal was left in the middle..

RedJewel2SS 06-17-2010 11:10 AM

t-tops are so 90's

I don't know if this would be possible with a sunroof. If you look at any picture of the Camaro frame, you will notice there is a center brace that runs through the middle of the roofline. If this is a critical frame rigidity brace, then the sunroof models must be reinforced along the sides of the roof. Cutting this for T-Tops could be bad news, unless a new brace can be installed in the middle. Any thoughts on this anybody?

Here's a pic that may help

agreed. what will this do to the safety of the car?
love the idea though, def would rather have t-tops than a sunroof

LAWMAN 06-17-2010 11:13 AM

Nice!!...but i think i would prefer a targa top, tinted glass with a undercover type screen to keep it as cool as possible inside when parked in da sun,

MTMTE 06-17-2010 11:13 AM

If you do smoked glass, throw a roll up sunscreen on one of the sides, I have it on my truck and it obliterated glare that comes through, even smoke windows!!

topgun1 06-17-2010 11:13 AM

targa is a great idea too, one completely removable panel, no metal in between panels, like the Vette.
