Would You Get the Optional Black Wheels if......

They were a dealer accessory and you had to pay $4-5000 for them and you would also NOT get the wheels that originally came on the car from the factory?
I know I wouldn't.
I hope they are a factory installed option.

Mods: please put this in the ZL1 section. thanks.

Delete it and move it. :)

Mr. Wyndham 09-16-2011 07:55 PM

Moved.

B4z. The black wheels are Standard on the ZL1.

No longer are they "the SSX wheels"....they're the ZL1's wheels. :)

With a dark color paint job they take on a whole new life IMHO. I was pretty high on the cut, flutted 5 spoke polished wheels originaly, and then with after thought only if they came in a powder coated midnight finish option. But, with the advent of the CGM and IBM color shots shown recently, it's almost a foregone conclusion for me on these wheels. Unless of course they offer as an option the 5 spoke ZL1 etched wheels in a powder coated midnight black!

CGM + Black Wheels= Sex on wheels

Hells yes. If it is available I will definitely be placing an order. It looks nasty.

2010 SSRS 09-16-2011 11:18 PM

I hope they offer chrome wheels

hv92 09-16-2011 11:58 PM

I really think that NOT that many people will be rocking the black wheels on their ZL1s. I feel as if the dealers will most likely order them WITH the polished wheels to appeal to the regular consumer. Just like some gt500s sitting on the showrooms have the optional SVT package with the different rims and such.

fiascoes1 09-17-2011 02:02 AM

I love the black wheels and thats what i am getting. If they where 4-5k extra then i would give it a second thought.

SuperCarEnthusiast 09-17-2011 06:00 AM

I like the SSX wheels the best. But it depends on the price and if I get to keep the chrome ones or not too. But I do it for $2,500 with the existing wheels. But if it is $5,000 and no existing wheels; I have to think good and hard because you have to price in the standard wheels into the price since they are taken from you and replace with the SSX wheels. So if the default wheels I think might be price at $2,000 and you are charged an extra $5,000 for the SSX wheels; the total cost of the SSX wheels are $7,000.00!

"SSX wheels" are standard. A more appropriate name for them would now be the "ZL1 wheels". :)

Where are you getting this info from? Do you have connections to GM or something?:help:

It's been stated earlier in the summer, and it's been pretty common knowledge since then. I think Oshawa's Open House was when they said it.

Have you noticed that nearly all ZL1s shown since then have been wearing the ten-spokes shown for the first time at the Camaro5Fest? :)

b4z 09-17-2011 01:08 PM

Thanks for the info.
It does seem that most buyers want the shinier wheels.
I don't see many Corvettes with Competition Grey wheels on the lots.
My '84 Z28 was silver with charcoal stripes and rocker panels and it had graphite wheels with machine faced edges. I loved it, but when the dealer bought the car back from me for $10,500 they ended up selling it for $8990. A hard sell in 1985 and I guess a hard sell in 2012 for a lot of people.

There's a lot of information to absorb. ZL1 is a lot of car. :)

Sounds like a easy naming scheme to me. ZL1 - Black 10 spoke, Polished 5 spoke. (Get away from the SSX terminology.)

KLR ZL1 09-17-2011 04:20 PM

Man this is making my head hurt, I wish we could order already and just be waiting for the car.

hv92 09-18-2011 01:47 PM

I'm thinking of getting rid of the black wheels when my ZL1 arrives and putting on some Vossen 20-inch rims on it. How much do you think a brand-new set of the rims could go for??

2012ZL1 09-18-2011 01:54 PM

Polished all the way for me...

Scarrzz 09-18-2011 05:41 PM

.

Both of the available wheel setups have the same weight as I recall. They are both of the same quality I deduct.

The price difference between the polished five spoke and the black ten spoke should only be the machining which the five spoke requires.

My guess is that the price difference will be around $500.00 for the set.

BTW, for me: 5 spoke, black inside and polished outside with dark neon blue accenting instead of the red. Much like this.

Evil Trailblazer SS 09-18-2011 06:11 PM

I wouldn't take the black wheels if GM paid me to order the car with them. Eventhough I like the look of CGM with black wheels, mine will have the polished wheels...I'm all about show, not go! :) (kidding)

Z4me 09-18-2011 06:14 PM

Scott told me and at least one other person at the Frederick fairgrounds
camaro show that the Black rims would be standard. He also hinted as to
the reason why it was chosen, which is that they are less expensive to
manufacture. If your think about it you choose the less exp rim as the
standard rim to keep the price down and compete as much as possible
with the mustang's MSRP. I also thought he hinted (but could be wronge)
that the wieghts of the two rims were very close. Which if you think
about would keep the specs closer togather for testing and production
of the ZL1
Which also means if I go with the polished rims its going to possible cost
me an extra 2K or 3k. I'm trying to figure out the color I want as far as the paint, and from that decision make my rim choice. I find depending on
the color of the paint I like one rim over the other. Oredring date is not
to far from now after waiting since hearing the ZL1's introduction earlier
this year.

Not for anything...but I'd be surprised if they cost that much more. These people will fight over pennies to keep the MSRP of the vehicle down...if the black wheels were just a few hundred dollars cheaper, that'd be reason enough.

Doesn't it feel like this year's flown by since Feb, in Chicago that this car was unveiled?

MSRP for 20" Staggered is around $2500, but the vendors here will offer some great dealer pricing. :)

Carbon Black ZL1 with standard black 10 spoke wheels and optional Exposed Carbon Fiber Hood. Pretty nice looking car.

2010SSRSM6 01-31-2012 05:17 PM

When I ordered mine, there wasn't a price difference. :iono:

I've got an IOM coming to life with the black 10 spokes, CF hood w/stripe, Sunroof etc.....

If you are replacing the rims after you get the car, I think you will have an easier time getting rid of the brushed vs black based on sheer numbers, but I don't think anyone will have a hard time unloading them for $1000-1500 with the tires.

You might be right but it looked too dark for AGM to me. But then these eyes are very old.

Thanks for the great photoshop. Sorry, I did not give you photo credit but I took it from a thread that did not show who made the PS. Nice work, think you could do the same car in Crystal Red with five spoke polished rims and the ECF Hood?

It's fine, it's been around a lot. Do you have pics of all the components? Pics I could cut and paste the parts from and onto, the hardest part is finding the parts at similar angles.
