What?! GT500 not going to get +600 horses to fight ZL1?
As reported by Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/14/f...me-with-camar/
"So much for the rumors that the Ford Mustang GT500 will turn twin-turbo. According to reports buzzing around the web, the meanest snake of all will hold onto its supercharger for the foreseeable future. Even so, that blower will supposedly ensure that Ford will have a beast capable of besting the power figures produced by the menacing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Currently, the GT500 is good for 550 horsepower, and some sources have indicated that the 2014 model will come to the table with at least a 20 pony bump in grunt. Even with 570 hp on tap, the vehicle isn't expected to be a complete redesign when it arrives in early 2013. Instead, a completely fresh Mustang is slated to show its face in 2014 as a 2015 model. Specifics on that particular beast are murky at best, but chances are we'll hear more as the years tick down. Keep your ears to the ground. News Source: Motor Authority" So - can some of us stop worrying, lol? Seeing all these posts and threads about people panicing about not getting the faster car lately is almost funny. While there are still many details to learn of about ZL1, there are even more about a soon-to-come GT500, but it's all rumor until we get information from each company. Of course this article is only another rumor, which is my point. Why get all worked up unless there's reason to? I don't think we're going to see many, if any, significant driveline changes or upgrades to the GT500 until the next generation, and that'll be close to when we see the next generation CAMARO, so I think this rivalry is going to be absolutely GREAT!!! |
passes the popcorn to the next reader, whats the next chapter of the book going to read on this on going saga :emoticon12:

Radz.... I hope you dont mind but I am just going to drop another article that I read in here to keep the threads down!
"Muscle car fans, hang onto your hats. We just received confirmation from a source close to the Mustang project--one we trust--that the Mustang GT500 won't be going twin-turbo any time soon--it'll stick with a supercharger. Better yet, the 2014 GT500 is due in early 2013 with even more power than the current 550-horse beast to better fight Chevy's Camaro ZL1. After that, we'll get a redesigned Mustang in 2014. A lot of this information has been cast about as rumor or speculation, but this one source ties it all together and confirms it. The twin-turbo versus supercharger debate for the next GT500 has been raging on blogs, in magazines, and through fan forums for more than a year now. The weight of the evidence has largely rested with the no-turbo camp, but for some reason, the rumor just won't die. It can now be laid to rest. The more tantalizing bit of information relates to the upcoming 2014 GT500. Due in early 2013, it will get a significant upgrade in power to fight the Camaro ZL1. That also serves as a sort of back-door confirmation that the ZL1 will debut with more power than the current 550-horsepower GT500, hinting that the 570-horsepower rumors have some merit. When it arrives in early 2013, however, the next GT500 won't get more than a superficial redesign. The full redesign for the Mustang line won't arrive until sometime in 2014 for the 2015 model year. What it will entail, or what can be expected in terms of weight, performance, size, or styling, we don't yet know. We will keep our ears to the ground and our sources close, however, to bring you the latest word from inside the Blue Oval as the next Mustang takes shape." http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...2014-exclusive |

I don't believe the sky is falling, but I do believe ford will answer with a formidable opponent. All tho the current car will always b hampered by it's lack of traction and poor handling, the next gen should address some of these issues. I'm not sure y everyone had a hard on for a twin turbo 5.0, ford just came out with the alum. 5.4 for the gt500. y put all that time and money in that motor to use for 2 yrs? Either way I think ford will answer with 600 hp or more, at least if they r smart they will. |
