Redundant Door Lock Buttons

Maybe I'm just naive, but what's the point of having the door lock button on the dash, below the radio, when each door has it's own set of lock buttons? I know the console button is there, but I never use it since the door buttons are more intuitive and convenient. Seems like a waste of a switch? :noidea:

I was also wondering if I might be able to re-purpose it for a different function somehow instead of adding an auxiliary switch somewhere else. I'm pretty good with micro-controllers and electronics, so it might be easy if I could gain access.

Transitional? My 10 SS only had the center console button. People complained and GM listened, relocating the switches to the doors. My guess is you got a transitional car with the older dash and the newer door switches.

10-11 had the locks under the radio and I'm pretty sure in the 12 model they finally moved it to the door panles

'12 & '13 (non Mylink have both).

'10 & '11 center only. I'm told '10 &'11 can be upgraded to buttons on the doors.

So it's a vestigial door lock switch?

Maybe I used mine once to check it out, maybe I didn't, can't remember, but I rarely use the ones on the door either.

When I get out I hit the lock itself, and when I'm getting in I use the remote.

Then again, I've never tried the CD player or the auxiliary plug inside the console just to see if they work.

I have the MyLink and don't have the switch on the dash. The ones on the door are the only ones

Always wondered why my 12 had the doors and the dash. Learn something new every day.

I never use the locks on the door, always the dash button. I do know the dash button also sets the alarm ...

Yes WE do.

Thanks for the info.:w00t:

Yeah, I always use the key fob to lock/unlock when I get in and out, but I use the switch on my door every time I need to let someone else in, or if they don't know about the "pull twice to open". Thought a friend was gonna break the handle off the one day trying to get out. I was like "Whoa whoa whoa! Let go. Pull again. Tada!" lol

This is no such thing.

I'm guessing it works the same as the door buttons. Activates the alarm after 30sec? I always touble-tap the key fob to arm immediately and get the honk.

My equinox has it on the doors and the dash, and they come in pretty useful cause they do different things like Child lock. As for the camaro, :iono: I wouldn't think it would be a bad thing.
