Skip Shift Eliminator

Has anyone installed the skip shift eliminator? Will it void the warranty?

Will not void warranty. I had the dealer install mine.

Did you have them install it out of convenience or is it a real pain in the arse to change? :iono:

simple to add if you can get under the car
plug and play

Convenience. Lots of folks have installed it themselves. There's a link somewhere on C5 that shows exactly how to do it. Search around for it.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Raise and secure vehicle high enough to access the transmission.
2. Carefully remove the connector from the skipshift solenoid.
(Skipshift solenoid is located about halfway down the transmission
case toward the top, on the drivers’ side.)
3. Install the white connector (see illustration) from the Skipshift Eliminator
Adaptor onto the skipshift solenoid/ (transmission end)
4. Install the original connector from the vehicle wiring harness into the other
Connector (see illustration) on the skipshift eliminator.
5. Place wiring harness back into original location, tucked up along the transmission.
If you can't shift into reverse after installing it then you plugged it into the wrong solenoid.

It should not void your warranty but if you want piece of mind then you could always remove it before you went to the dealer since it's a simple plug and play install.

Easy mod to install. The only time I'd worry about uninstalling it is if you're going in for warranty work for a transmission issue.

Get one on EBay for about $12 shipped.

Do only the SS' have these? My LLT has not skip shifted, yet.

BigCarrot 03-29-2011 02:11 PM

Yeah I think on the SS models have it to avoid the Gas Guzzler Tax. The V6 doesn't have that issue so no need to implement it.

SS with LS3

Just a note: The $12 skip shift eliminator will remove the interference of your shifting, but the DIC will continue to annoy you with the message. No big deal.

alterbrett 03-29-2011 04:47 PM

Does the one from APEX remove the message from the DIC? Just curious.

SSLarry 03-29-2011 05:27 PM

No, you would need to reprogram the ECU (and lose your warranty). Instead, the $12 device simply fools the ECU into thinking it did it's job in locking out the 2nd and 3rd gears. It never actually actually fires the solenoid, and the DIC has no idea.

I'm having the dealer install it on my SS (LS3) before I take delivery. I had read about it on the forum, and encountered it on my test drive. Instantly I said, "THAT HAS TO GO!"
