2010 Camaro V6 vs 2012 Mustang V6 (Husband vs Wife)

My wife and I finally took our cars to the drag strip and raced them head to head. We both had a full tank of gas and tire pressures were high (40 psi on mine). It was our first time ever racing, so we went to have fun and see if we like it. We loved it, talking about going again real soon. No videos or pictures, hopefully next time we can get some.

Here are our specs:
2010 Camaro V6 (Synergy Green Edition)
ADM Race Scoop
K&N Aircharger
MACE Plenum Spacer
RX 3/8" Intake Manifold Spacer
Trifecta Tune
American Racing Headers LT w/HFC
ARK DT-S
Auto w/ 3.27
BMR Rear Trailing Arms w/ Bushings

2012 Mustang V6 (Grabber Blue Pony Package)
BBK Intake
Borla ATAK
Auto w/ 2.73
BAMA Tune
BBK LT w/ HFC (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...8&postcount=84 for first run with Headers)
BMR Rear Lower Control Arms

I know I need to remove my subwoofer box and spare tire. Also, lower our rear air pressure.

Any suggestions? Also Mustang guys, anything I can do to my wife's car to help her out? Think the gear ratio is really hurting hers.

Here are our time slips, left to right is the order we ran, I was always the right lane. The DA was 3743. On the 4th run, the track guys said I need to stop beating on her. Then the 5th they said I should give her a head start or else I wouldn't be getting any tonight.

Good meeting you there. I was the silver v6 camaro. My best time for the night was 14.707, but the DA was horrible.

I started off with HORRIBLE times, but got a little better as I kept running down the strip.

First thing for the Mustang, get rid of that BBK intake and get a JLT with a Email tune from American Muscle/BAMA chips.

And both cars really need to work on you'll 60's.
Both should be in the 2.0-2.2 range.

Good to see you'll having fun.

She already wants Headers and a Tune for Christmas, so I have to see what I can swing. Any suggestions on the suspension?

We both are new, so we rolled into the throttle gradually with TC on. We will get better with more runs.

Good times, I wish I had stayed, but we were both hungry and had not eaten yet. Cybercoaster went to the track in his ZL1. We are planning on going in 2 weeks again, we had a blast out there. I'm glad the track guys were so laid back, they kept joking around with my wife and I.

It is addictive! Definately need to get those 60ft times down, both cars seem petty equal with that being the deciding factor. Play with the launch, TC off, play with launching at different RPMs, maybe 1500? I am sure the owners of the 2 cars can certainly help you out with the best launch rpm. Above all, keep having fun :)

I wish my wife had a sports car and would do that with me. Haha. I went to the strip once, and when she found out insurance doesn't cover wrecks at the drag strip I can't participate anymore lol. My best time in my V6 was 14.922 @ 92mph. Car is completely stock and I'm a 230-40 lb person lol. Was really fun to drive it down the strip while I had the chance. My 60 time was 2.269 and reaction was .695. Good times.

I have no experience with either car, but I just want to say it is pretty bad ass your wife likes to drag race with you.

Sounds like fun!

Words of advice: Work on your 60' times. (both of you)

this. and once your wife has a got the launch down, her car needs at least 3.73s

KMPrenger 06-28-2012 07:37 PM

Looks like great fun! With a decent launch and cooler temps that very low 14s for sure.

MagnumForceGB 06-28-2012 08:01 PM

We are going again tomorrow night. We will be working on our launches, since the first night we survived without hitting the walls or each other. The temp will be near 100 degrees though, so no record-breaking times.

Will post the times again and see if I can get some videos.

Get the wife some 3.73's, a tune, and maybe an aluminum driveshaft. Then get her a helmet, because I think thats required for anything under 13.99:thumbsup:

Just got back from the track tonight and we did a little better. My wife managed to shave 0.2 seconds off her best time it seems. Both still having trouble with our 60 foot times though. Don't know if its because we are both running PZero All-Season tires. Also, on my last launch it felt like I ran over a speed bump, I'm thinking I had some wheel hop. I have BMR Subframe Bushing Inserts, so I may need trailing arms now.

Met a V6 Mustang owner that was running also. The one time I saw he ran a 14.1 sec. I talked to him and he had 3.73 gears, tune, manual trans, and a few other things. Was a cool guy, said if his wife had a Camaro he would be competitive with her like my wife and I are. He also recommended I put Lower Control Arms on the rear, said that the gears will make the live axle jump.

Overall, we both had fun.

Video of one of my runs. I wanted to get my Torque Track Recorder going, but I can't convert videos on it with the overlays. It looks like my car slides a little bit on launch.

Our time slips, my best run was the 2nd one, wife's was the last one (she wants to break into the 14 second range badly). We both had a 1/4 tank of gas, but I didn't change the air pressures. The DA was around 4200 starting out, then by the time we left it was around 3500. I was car #401, wife was #400.

What rpms are you launching at? It appeared that right before green you upped the rpms just a bit.

On stock tires try your best to spin and at least clean em off a bit before your run. I hear getting some heat into the Pzeros is a good thing also, but if you don't want to roast your tires I can't blame you. Maybe you should try launching from idle or just above idle...say around 800 - 1,100 rpms but no higher. Left Foot on brake, and at green release the brake and mash the gas with your right foot simultaneously. Traction Control on. That method has produced the best 60 foot times I've seen on this site for an automatic V6 on stock tires.

Otherwise that looks damn fun and I wish I could be doing the same thing!

Can't wait to see what times you can run later in cooler weather.
