HPS

Performance Street Compound.

High Performance Street disc brake pads are world renowned for increasing stopping power on your street legal vehicle. Increasing the performance of your vehicles braking system is easy when you choose Hawk Performance’s HPS braking compound. This unique Ferro-Carbon formula was developed for street performance using the safety and quality of Aerospace and Motorsports severe-duty friction technology.

The High Performance Street compound offers a higher coefficient of friction over stock brake pads and can provide you 20-40% more stopping power and higher resistance to brake fade than most standard replacement pads. Less fade means you’ll have a highly durable brake pad with less brake dust.

Note: Hawk Performance burnishes its High Performance Street brake pads as a final step in the factory, but all brake pads have to be bedded-in with the rotors (new or used) that they will be used against. Properly bedding-in new brake pads results in a transfer film being generated at the pad and rotor interface to maximize brake performance.

Features
  • Increased stopping power
  • High friction/torque hot or cold
  • Gentle on rotors
  • Extended pad life
  • Low dust
  • Virtually noise-free

Performance Street break-in procedure

All brake pads must be broken in with the rotor they will be used with. Even though performance street pads have been burnished at the factory, a transfer film must be generated at the pad and rotor interface for optimal performance. Whether you have new or used rotors, you must follow the bed-in steps listed below to maximize brake performance.
  1. After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 8 brakings* from approximately 30-35 mph, applying moderate pressure. Do not go below 25 mph.
  2. Make an additional 2 to 3 hard brakings* from approximately 50 to 55 mph. Do not go below 40 mph.
  3. Allow 15 minutes for the brake system to cool down. Do not apply the parking brake# during this cooldown period.
Your performance street pads are now ready for driving!

Notes:
  1. *These brakings refer to an abrupt and "snub and release" pedal action instead of dragging brakes to a complete stop. If you have to drive to another place to perform this procedure, it's OK to drive and gradually stop as you would normally on street.
  2. # This refers to the floating caliper type rear parking brake. It's OK to use the parking brake if you have the drum type shoe brake. If you are not sure what type of parking brake you have, simply shift your transmission to the "P" position or 1st gear (for manual transmission).
  3. The purpose of the break-in procedure is to generate a thin film (which can only occur when the pad is heated up) and transfer it to the rotor surface. You should avoid having the brake pad in contact with the rotor surface as much as possible during the break-in. This is why you should never drag the brakes to a complete stop.

Do these squeel worse than the stock brakes?

As long as you properly install and bed-in the pads you should not have an excessive amount of squeal. That being said, high performance braking and silent brakes are mutually exclusive concepts. Noise and heat are the natural by-products of friction. If you ever get the chance to drive a high end sports car with carbon ceramic brakes you will notice two things:

1) It will stop so fast that your eyes pop out and land on the dash.

2) The brakes sound like a poorly maintained work truck.

Apex Motorsports 11-03-2012 10:29 AM

Something like StopTech would be a good option for that kind of use.

iFast 03-12-2013 11:31 PM

Apex Motorsports 03-13-2013 05:39 AM

Chase,

I already need to order that scoop and w/w relocation setup from you but before I do can you get me info on these pads as well as s/s brake lines for all 4 corners please. I want to be sure I get the right stuff as it's for a 2013 Camaro 1LE and as I recall there is something different when it comes to calipers than a normal SS maybe?? PM me please...
