Drag front tires

I asked this in the wheel/tire section but got no response. Thinking this may be a better area.

I am looking at a drag setup Forgestar F14s in 17”. Was told 18” x5” wide up front is what works.

I like to run the ETSteeet R P305/45R17 on the back.
They are a 27.8” tire.
Problem is I’m having trouble finding front tires. What is everyone using?

I have not found a skinnier front tire. I use a 225/55/18 on an 18x8 F14 drag wheel and 17x10 rear with previously 305/45/17 MT Street R but now 325/45/17 M&H. There doesn't seem to be a tire skinny enough and tall enough for an 18x5

I'm in the same boat. Look like M&H has the the 2 options if you want 18' to clear the rotors ( in my case the 6 piston Brembo)
I just ordered the 18x5.5 wheels and these 28" tires

That looks like it would be a stretch on a 5 or 5.5 wide wheel but might work. It's also bias ply

Yep...Like you said. We either have to use spacers, smaller calipers or wider. No perfect fit yet.

Having trouble spending too much money on front wheels if I cannot find tires.
I wonder if finding a 17 inch wheel for the front will help.

Why not just do a 17" front? Do you have bigger than stock front brakes?

Slickcas 01-27-2018 12:03 AM

One of the vendors here told me the 18’ are what is needed with the Drag F14.
Does any one know is the Drag F14 will fit with the stock SS brakes. And what backspacing ?

Does Forgestar make a 17x4.5 / 17x/5 for the front? You can run MT 28x6.00x17 SR Sportsman fronts then.

Right now the only skinny 18" 28 tall option are the MH tires, which are bias ply. MT is planning to release a 28 x 6.00 x 18 SR Sportsman front in March they told me.

I have driven the MH bias front 28x17s and they are not that great on the street FWIW.

That’s good info. I am so discouraged after looking for 18 inch tires. I was looking at the Weld Sr71 wheels that a member posted. They look very good just do not like the black with my IBM car. But they are 17” all around.

I was told by a vendor that 17x4.5 front and 17x10 rear would work. :iono:

Be nice to know. Will definitely find out at the Camaro Fest !! Was trying to have a drag setup for it. But I do have 18” corvette GS wheels I can swap out the 555Rs over to MT ET street R I guess.

Robrocketanski I'm interested in the same setup you have but struggling with selection of 225/55/18 tires, low speed ratings, etc. What brand/model tire are are you using? Aside from tire selection, any pros/cons to consider?
