Chevrolet Camaro Joins Dubai Police Force

Chevrolet Camaro SS is the first ever Camaro to be used by a police force in the Middle East

2013-05-06

DUBAI – The Chevrolet Camaro SS has joined the Dubai Police fleet of vehicles and is the first Camaro to be used by a police force in the Middle East.

Powered by a 6.2L V8 engine, the Camaro SS boasts a power output of 426 horsepower and a maximum torque of 567 Nm. With a top speed of 250 km/h and acceleration of 0-100 km/h in a blistering 4.7 seconds, the Camaro is the perfect addition to Dubai Police force.

The Camaro, which will be used as a patrol vehicle in the Emirate, was officially handed over to the police by Al Ghandi Auto, General Motors’ dedicated Chevrolet dealer partner in Dubai, at Dubai Police headquarters.

Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, Managing Director of Al Ghandi Auto and John Stadwick, President and Managing Director of GM Middle East, handed the keys of the Camaro SS to Dubai Deputy Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina. In return John Stadwick received a special engraved plaque from Dubai Police.

“The Camaro is highly regarded around the world. It is the ideal car for Dubai Police as we look to upgrade our vehicles to meet the Emirate’s world renowned standards in safety and security,” said Dubai Deputy Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina.

“We are delighted to be the first to respond to the Dubai Police’s request for assistance in adding high performance patrol cars to their fleet. We felt that the Camaro would be the right vehicle for their needs,” said Buti Saeed Al Ghandi.

“We are confident that the Camaro’s ability to respond rapidly, by virtue of its high performance V8 engine, coupled with its practical suitability for Dubai’s roads and ease of servicing, will make it an ideal patrol car for years to come,” he added.

The Chevrolet Camaro has been a huge success in the Middle East sports car market. It was named Best Muscle Car in 4 consecutive years from 2009 to 2012 by leading automotive publications. The Camaro ZL1 was awarded “Muscle Car of the Year 2012” by Evo Middle East magazine in February this year.

- Ferrari FF
- Bentley Continental GT
- Mercedes SLS 63 AMG (Abu Dhabi has this...)
- Aston Martin One-77
- Bugatti Veyron (Coming soon)
- Porsche 911 Turbo (Coming soon)
- Audi R8 (Coming soon)
- McLaren MP4-12C (Rumoured)

It could be a confiscated vehicle. My county sheriff used to have a BMW and an Escalade.
