Tough times delay the Camaro Convertible

Tough times delay the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible…again General Motors isn’t in the greatest of financial situations right now, which has forced the Detroit automaker to push back some of its new car introductions. Because GM has already delayed some very important vehicle launches – such as the new Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Cruze – it comes as no surprise that GM will also wait to launch some of its niche market vehicles. According to Motor Trend, the economic slowdown has forced GM to delay the introduction of its Camaro Convertible. Earlier this year it was reported that the Camaro Convertible would be delayed by six months, but it looks as though that delay has been extended to at least 12 months, if not longer. The drop-top version of the revived muscle car was originally slated to hit the market about a year after its fixed-roof counterpart – sometime in the first part of 2010 – but those plans have been put on hold indefinitely. The Camaro Convertible program hasn’t been completely cancelled like Chrysler’s aborted Challenger Convertible, but the open air car is certainly on life support at this point. GM has vowed only to move forward with the Camaro Convertible after its financial situation has improved, which means we likely won’t see the Camaro Convertible until at least 2011. Looks like Ford’s Mustang will still have part of the pony car segment on lock down after all |
Well, if you loaned your brother $50K, and he promised to pay $42K back before you remodeled your home....would you wait until you actually got all or part of the $42K back, or would you go ahead and sign a contract with the construction crew to proceed with the remodeling?
I'd say you would wait for some return first, then commit to future projects. Or is that too narrow of a focus? I forget sometimes. :) |
I guess I will have more time to save up...? I hope

Please change the title of this topic, it scared me at first. The Convertible delay is dissapointing but is not set to come out in March.
|
Actually the Convertible is set to come out months ahead of schedule.

Yes, change the title to include the word 'Convertible'. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that word in the article. |
This will actually work out good for me. Now I can keep my new SS for a couple years and then get the convertible once it comes out in 2012. GM just got me to buy 2 new camaro's instead of one !

You should add convertible to your title. Scared me good, you did.
|
Scott????? is this true?
I thought the announcment said from the beginning that the convertible would be 6 months to a year after the coupe debuted.... |

Sorry if this was posted, but VERT lovers read.....

It was posted, but not a problem a simple merge can't fix. ;)
Welcome to Camaro5, and thanks for posting it up!! |
As I've stated previously yesterday, everyone should go outside and look at all of the cars on the road. How many of them are convertibles? That's right—not enough for GM to make it their number one priority. Would you rather have a 2010 Camaro convertible or a company, GM, that can make your convertible years from now? I think GM wants to stay alive more than it wants to make a convertible for a couple of months and go bankrupt.

I agree that it is a smart decision on GM's part to put the convertable on hold for now. I am hoping that the Camaro coupe will provide a much needed boost to GM next year. I hope to do my part by picking up my new 2SS/RS ASAP. It is on pre-order!
