5000 deposit? Tell him to take a hike. Look elsewhere.

AnnaBear@SpartaChevy 08-17-2009 06:33 PM

Yes, it is possible to have your car within three months. It depends if the dealership you order from has any allocations or not. I had one customer, (she's a member here)...had her car in just under 6 weeks.

$5,000 seems a little steep for a deposit, 10% up to 20% is more customary on an order.

What are you looking for? What model, color, etc.?

I think your dealer is nuts too. Shop around and compare prices from other dealers. On this forum I've seen that most deposits range from $500 to around $1500.

Dont give more than $1,000 deposit !. I ordered my car 6/11 and it was built 8/4 and was due 8/16 to my dealer. Figure 3 months but Get a dealer with an "allocation" to order in a week or two max. $5,000.00 deposit is nuts- You will be locked into that dealer no matter what.

so if my dealer has an allocation, you think 6 weeks is reasonable? my dealer DOES have one and i'm debating whether or not to order... i don't know if i can have my car sold in that amount of time, but 6 weeks would be AWESOME!

It can be done if you find the right dealer. But, $5000 deposit. That right there should be enough to send you running. Find yourself another dealer.

$5000.00 is ridiculous. Use the search function and educate yourself on this website about allocations and the reputable dealers BEFORE you order. If you do your homework, you'll most likely get your car in less than 3 months and save yourself a lot of aggravation in the process.

Mine was ordered 1/30 and delivered to me on 8/7 we put down $500 and the dealer had 2 orders ahead of us.

What dealer are you going to in NY??

NEVER give that kind of deposit and make sure it is refundable. ANd they write it is refundable on your receipt. I gave $500 and they ordered it for me. I ordered March 17th and I got the car July 30th.

Originally I was told "8 weeks"

Personally I ordered May 12th, and mines supposed to be built this week.
Hopefully see it pretty soon. That would put me around 3.5-4 months'ish. (hopefully)

My dealer claimed to have had available allocations, but there was an order ahead of mine ordered days prior.

Anyways, bottom line, mines gonna have taken about twice as long as estimated by the time it arrives so long as nothing else delays it.

That said, I did order a M6, with ground effects and a colored engine cover... All of the above I believe had delays so I maybe just got nailed by some of that nonsense.

I just ordered my Camaro last week... Dealer didn't ask for any money and said it'd take 4-6 weeks for it to arrive! Hope that helps!

Ordered mine June 27, but the dealer didn't put it in the computer until 7/1. It went 1100/3000 immediately. It is sitting in the railyard waiting for a truck. Had it not been for the darn railcar which broke down and detoured my car for a week, I would be driving it by now. Should be at the dealer in a few days.
