thoughts on caliper covers?

hey just want to get your guys opinions on caliper covers...i dont have time to get them painted so i figured this would be the way i need to go.
are they going to protect the calipers from rust and damage? or are they going to cause more damage than good?

any thoughts are awesome

IMO, most look tacky...4 jack stands, couple of floor jacks, and a few hours and you can do em yourself ;)

Or, do a core exchange!

I had them, michael js is probably right to some extend. I upgraded to the SS brembo brakes for better performance and to get rid of the covers.

I did not take them off to paint them. For a complete job, i probably would, but I didn't see the point:

Caliper covers = facepalm.

Aluminum doesn't rust. Especially coated aluminum.

so i am assuming you just painted the front?

I've seen them on a really nice Challenger and it just ruined the car! Please don't use them! I upgraded to the SS to get the upgraded brakes and they look really nice. I have painted them on a different car before. Jack it up and remove the wheel. Get lots of newspaper and some masking tape. Cover everything and paint away. I used some high temp engine enamel. They actually turned out really well. Gotta be careful though, they get pretty hot.

Caliper covers are rice-tastic

rd-camaro 04-01-2010 12:22 PM

yeah im not going to waste my time on the caliper covers anymore! hahaha you guys changed my mind. ive been browsing the forums and i think im going to go with the G2 orange paint kit for only like $36. i like it cuz it is brush paint and not the spray paint. spray would be waaaaay to messy anyways.

thanks everyone!

when i get it done ill be sure to post pics for anyone who is interested

You can actually get high temp paint made just for calipers now. Saw some at O'Reileys or Autozone.

Yes, the front & the sides. Good choice! That's the same paint I used ;)

You could also have them custom mix to match the IOM...
