Has anyone broken a ZL1 diff yet?

I'm trying to decide which rear end is going to work the best for me. I know that the 9" kits are bullet proof but can have a tendency to wine and have a big price tag. I haven't heard a whole lot about the Hammerhead other than they have a big price tag as well. The ZL1 rears seem to be quiet and strong and half the price of the others. Has anyone broken one yet? Is anyone running big numbers with one?

If it were me I'd get the ZL1 diff but a gforce driveshaft to go with it versus the OEM 2-piece. The only downside is reduced gear selection versus going 9".

Im on the road so I cant do a actual break down , while the unproven zl1 diff is cheaper its not half as cheap as the aftermarket options. You will see some zl1 stuff break and the driveshaft will most likely start it off.The zl1 diff is no doubt an improvement over the stock ss but not in the same category as the hammerhead or 9 inch... If I can help you out with your drivetrain give me a call it may be cheaper than you think

You get what you pay for. You haven't heard much, and probably won't, about ZL1 rears breaking because most ZL1 owners won't take them to the drag strip and beat on them with sticky tires.

ZL1 rear is nice don't get me wrong.. But for the price you are 3/4 of the way to the 9"/12-bolt combinations. I'd put a DSS 9" in there and call it a day. The new gear setups being done by DSS now are a lot better for gear whine. The price tag is not as bad as you think compared to the ZL.

I am loving my ZL1 rear end. It easily takes everything that I throw at it and the cost was under 4k for everything. Remember, the vendors on this site are here to sell parts.

What he said. Lowest price I've seen for the ZL1 is 3700. That's a long way from the other options out there. You could do a lot more to your car with the money you'd save.
