Water spots on windows
 

Anybody have a good solution for water spots on the windows???
It's probably the hard water here.

I use a clay bar and remove the spots, to prevent them I use turtle wax ice synthetic paste on all the windows, it works great.

RainX is good.

Use some vinegar to dissolve the deposits on there now, and then wash/rinse/dry.

Don't ever wash the car in the direct sun if possible, or let the car dry while washing, and then dry very quickly.

i would always just use a razor blade on my windows. did the job and didnt harm the windows.

I just wax the window along with the car. Allways worked fine for me.

Okay, I spend a lot of time detailing. If you have issues with water spots there are several options:

1. Stoner's invisible glass : great product, available at most auto parts stores
$4 a can, window tint safe

2. If you have hard water, they sell a treatment you can add to your wash bucket that will stop water spots from forming.

The best product I have used to remove water spots from glass without harming the glass is "Auto Glym Car Glass Polish." The stuff is also great for getting rid of the contaminants that attach themselves to your glass. Get a Ziploc bag and put your hand inside it. Then, slide it over the glass. It will likely feel like you have sand attached to your glass. After using Auto Glym, it will feel completely smooth.

Vinegar can dissolve/loosen the minerals that are attaching themselves to the glass. You can put some vinegar on a paper towel and try wiping across the water spot. If it does nothing, then try soaking a piece of paper towel and then placing it on the water spot for 4-5 minutes. The minerals are in the water, water dries on the car and/or glass and the sun "bakes" them on the surface. To minimize this from happening, you want to do whatever you can from letting water dry on your car. Rain water is not so bad, but city water often is hard-water and can really do a job on a car's finish. If the vinegar does not work, then use one of the above products for removing them from glass...do not try using them on the paint. Using Rain-X on a monthly basis will prevent water spots from forming on the glass.

The detail boys used razor blades all the time, it took me a while to get used to but razor blades remove everything. I also saw them use steel wool...
