How Do You know If You Have an LS3?
 

Here is a dumb question but, how can you be sure you have an LS3 engine? I have 2010 2SS with the RS package 6.2 L V8 but I cant find the LS3 designation on the cars documentation:confused0068:.

If no one did a transmission swap prior to you buying it. LS3 came in manual transmission factory equipped cars.

It is a little suprising it isn't on the engine cover like the corvettes...

It's on the window sticker.

It would be on the window sticker, or some sort of car options report.

But as mentioned, the LS3 is in M6 SS Camaro's and the L99 engine is in the automatics.

LS3s require no markings...they are assumed.

if it came from the factory with an LS3 it would have a manual transmission. If it has an automatic transmission then it came from the factory with a L99 motor

Look at the RPO codes if you want to be super sure.

It did come from the factory with the 6 Speed MT and I was pretty sure it was the LS3 but I couldn't find it on the documentation. I will check the window area.

What is the 8th digit of your VIN?

Position #8 Engine Codes
"V" for the LLT (3.8 V-6 DI VVT)
"W" for the LS3
“J” for the L99
