Weather Related Shutdowns....FYI,,,

GM, Ford halt output at 7 plants due to weather in Canada

Automotive News | December 14, 2010 - 3:43 pm EST
UPDATED: 12/14/10 11:09 pm ET
DETROIT (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. canceled or shortened shifts at seven assembly plants because of weather-related road closings in Canada.

At GM, the changes affect production of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain compact sport-utility vehicles, the Chevrolet Impala sedan and Camaro Coupe, and the Cadillac CTS and STS models.

The Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Lansing, Mich., which makes the CTS and STS, closed earlier today because of a parts shortage caused by highway closings in Canada, said Chris Lee, a GM spokesman. He declined to specify the part.

Workers at GM's assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario, were sent home early during the day shift and the late shift today was canceled, said Jason Easton, a spokesman. GM shortened shifts at its CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, starting Monday, he said. The CAMI facility makes the Equinox and Terrain, and the Oshawa plant makes the Impala and Camaro.

Lambton County in Ontario declared a state of emergency because of a winter storm, the Ontario Provincial Police said today in a statement on its website. Police are rescuing drivers from about 360 stranded vehicles on Highway 402, which crosses over to Port Huron, Mich., the police said.

BeckyD, you really do rock and are a very involved Camaro dealer/person/contributor. Kudos to you.

I posted this in the ordering forum but saw this storm post. As I posted, I ordered a new 2011 2LT on Nov.6. Order history below. As I scan the camaro5 posts, I see an event 3400 to 3800 in 5 days to 1 month. I'm at 5 weeks and counting. Stressing a little. Starting to drink (it's Friday)

11/06/2010
- (1100) Order Placed at Dealership Order passed GM edit tables but dealers has not received allocation to place order 11/06/2010 - (1102) Order Entered via Web
11/10/2010 - (2000) Order Accepted by GM Dealer used allocation to place order into production
11/10/2010 - (2500) Order Preferenced Order pulled to the production system
11/10/2010 - (3000) Order accepted by production control. Parts being ordered and production process is underway.
11/13/2010 - (3100) Order available to sequence.
11/13/2010 - (3300) Order Scheduled for Production Order is scheduled into the plant build cycle
11/20/2010 - (3400) Order Broadcast (Internal Plant Paperwork Order Produced) Order is sent to various build & supplier areas to bring order together

Is it taking longer to build Camaro's these days or did this storm collapse Minneapolis' stadium and Oshawa plant? :-)

Thanks Becky. I'm plugged into the Camaro order history system, thus what I embedded in my post. Hmmm, does a dealer have a "deeper" view into build status?
