Reliability of blown ls3 with stock internals??
There have been several camaros for sale recently with superchargers and stock internals.
What's are peoples experience with the reliability of this combination. There are some with a decent amount of miles on them which makes me believe if you don't tune it too crazy and aren't beating on it all the time it's pretty reliable. Also how does the stock drivetrain hold up to 550 plus rwhp Thanks |
Mines had no problems whats so ever, I'm over 600 at wheels and not afraid to drive it a cross the state at anytime. It's been very reliable. It honestly depends how u drive it. My stock clutch lasted awhile before it acted up but at my power level it was only a matter of time. Plus mine only saw the 1/4 mile a couple times. I do drive my car hard, but not on sticky tires, I run 315 nitto invos and I believe they stick less than the Pzero it comes with.

IIRC the stock internals are good to 12 psi with a solid tune.
If done right than stock internals are fine. 600rwhp here and drive it 100 miles a day.
Mine is at 570hp on 9psi with 11:1 a/f and 14* timing. I expect if it ever let go it wouldn't be because of the tune.
Really depends on how its driven. You can have 750+rwhp, as long as you drive it easy, I'm sure 600-650 will have its issues if beat on constantly.
12-13 lbs and 709 rwhp here. I don't drive it easy and so far everything is fine. Maybe 30 passes and drove on the weekends. I've put about 2000 miles on it so far but I know I'm on borrowed time.
As long as the tune is safe and its not been bounced off the rev limiter you should be fine. You might blow gasket or something repairable but nothing major.
I put 30xxx miles on mine with no issues running 580whp. I added a big cam and went to 650whp and a month later cracked a piston. So in my experiance 650 hp is pushing it to the limit if u drive with a heavy foot like me.

I ran 530 WHP for a while on the stock shortblock and ran the crap out of it at the track and on the street. When it finally gave up I wasn't surprised. If you're gong to make big power , stock engine or high performance build . You better be ready for the thing to break because they both do sometimes. If you can't fix it, you should consider not running the horsepower because you're not going to be happy with a broken car sitting in the driveway that you don't have the resources to fix. So the point is , more power is typically reduces overall engine life with a few exceptions. Just know what the score is before you get into something you wish you hadn't . I'm at 600 to the ground and everything from the trans back is stock with no problems so far. However, I haven't run wide drag radials because I'm concerned I'll break an axel if it hooks solid at the track. I've been just too lazy or too busy to put the new upgrades in. |

In my opinion its not just the tune . Its also quality parts. Dont skimp on fuel delivery or other key parts then you can tune with cushion. I installed my SC when I had just under 2000 miles and havent looked back. I have made changes and continue to but After 32,000 grin filled miles I have full confidence taking it on a romp or across the country.
I do plan on forging my spare motor and installing it because I feel Im at the threshold of what is considered reliable. I then will be going down to a 3" pulley. |
Epstein, how many lbs or boost now?
Im between 8 lbs ....with it approaching 11 ish high in the rpms....Im tuned on the more conservative fatter side..
OK. Just wondering, mine peaks at 9.6lbs on the dyno and with a flat 11:1 a/f and 14* timing I make 570/520 with the Paxton.
Bet ya its that ported TB.....Stingy Dyno.....warm day..... who knows.... its just a number....LOL...
I'm at 635 so far no problems. Changing CIA and TB maybe more to come. Tune matters!
Boost doesn't blow motors up, I don't know how May times I'll have to tell people this. 12psi can make north of 800 or less than 600 depending on the fest of the setup. 650whp is when you stop on stock internals.
I'm at 800+ but I know I'm on borrowed time with my internals.

I consider engines like speakers. Wattage doesn't blow speakers distortion does. I feel engines are the same for the most part that boost doesn't blow engines but lean/pre ignition conditions do.
Oh I didnt take it that way ......trust me ...Its all good......
I seen cars with 600 hp be slower than those with 550...... Like a speaker its not the wattage ...but the delivery.... Now about that throttle body |
I've been porting them for over a decade.
