INDY 500 PACE CAR

OK you guys---GM goes back to work on Monday the 5th....so let's get going.

The Indy auto show is over--no pace car announcement like last year....Will Camaro be done in time???? or will we have to put up with something else?

WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

Captain Awesome 01-03-2009 12:57 PM

I heard it was going to be the Cruze.

J/K!

Looks like you'll have to "put up" a Corvette again - http://www.corvetteblog.com/archives...announced.html

Ry4nVan 01-03-2009 03:31 PM

Good game GM. Way to sell the new Camaro!

And the fact that I've already seen that pace car in production at Bowling Green...

I hate to say this but , they might have been here a hundred years , 10 more will be amazing.....

In defense of GM, when the scheduling was determined they had no clue that the entire auto industry was about to implode.

Actually, the Daytona 500 is running THE DAY BEFORE Camaro Production starts.

I guarantee you that this will have a far greater audience than the Indy 500.

If they aren't the pace cars at Daytona, I don't know what else possibly could.

If they miss this race then they are IDIOTS.

Japanese transplants have did the same thing in the United States. Hold the taxpayer for ransom. Who pays all the taxes that are created? Not the big Corporations.....

There is already a thread out there for posts like this. Please stay on topic.

The Dale Jr. SEMA car looks eerily similar in paint scheme to previous Indy Pace Cars from GM.. hmmmmmm...

Camaro_Corvette 01-05-2009 08:16 AM

Not that I am disappointed with the vette, but it seriously should be an SS camaro just like the one in Fbodfathers avatar. I love that paint scheme.

+1 or something to that effect... especially since they start 'official' production the next day! :happyanim:

Anything is better than what INDY did in 2000. WTF is this?? An INDY pace car!! What...No! Say it isn't so.

http://www.oldsclub.org/History/Pace...000PaceCar.jpg

The sad part is that this car was my first INDY 500 experience.:( I was younger at the time, and I specifically remember saying.. Where the hell is my vette!!!:mad0260:

Maybe you'll see a Camaro Pace Car at Indy once the convertible is available.

The Indy 500 draws 300K people, whereas the Daytona 500 only seats 168K. They don't call it the greatest spectacle in racing for nothing.

Not including the worldwide fanbase.

Blownhotrodder 01-05-2009 09:43 PM

Dont worry guys, they will have it as a pace car long after it launches and is stale. Putting major discounts on it to try and get people interested in it. Totally backwards like usual. What better time to get it out there and in the greatest exposure possible than as the pace car. Dont you guys wanna see a cool 60hp hybrid Aveo?

72 Z27 01-29-2009 10:46 PM

Any new info on this? Since the Camaro is apparently the pace car for Daytona, then it should be available for Indy, right? I'm guessing it will be the pace car, but will only be the 3 actual cars, and have no parade/festival cars.

Camaro_Corvette 01-29-2009 10:48 PM

Nope, Indy is gonna have another corvette. Sorry to break it to ya. Check post 3 in this thread.

camaro5 01-29-2009 10:53 PM

I'm thinking Daytona, I'm so confused...normal. ooops, wrong thread, sorry.

But for Indy then, this message was posted in 2007, talking about a race in 2008, then it says they will be 2009 Corvettes. Typo city, no? :iono:

Not at all, a 2007 Press release, for an up-coming 2008 race, using MODEL YEAR 2009 pace cars. That help? And as mentioned the traditional unveiling of the Indy pace car at the Indy Auto Show didn't happen this year. IF a car has been selected, no ones saying,,,,,

Autoblog: Camaro Named Official Pace Car of Daytona 500

Although the ad shows a stock V6 RS, we're guessing it might look a little spiffier when it takes to the track. The V6 could stay – after all, it packs a V8-like 300 horsepower. Either way, there are doubtlessly some graphics in the works along with the usual slate of safety add-ons.

28 days. The race is Feb 15, Camaro production March 16.

There is no race schedule March 15 so Camaro pace car should premier March 8 at Atlanta.
