Tap shift

ok i just upgraded from the v6 to the v8 a couple weeks ago and in the v6 when i used tapshift it downshifts by itself all the way to first gear. in the v8 while using tapshit when i come to a complete stop it stays in 2nd gear is that normal?

and with the v6 from a stop you could only be in 2nd gear, with the v8 i can start in 3rd is that normal? and my last question while you are using the paddle shifters is AFM turned off?

when you are using tap shift, you hand shift to first.the afm does not shut off.i never use it.i find it more fun to put it in "S" mode.more responsive.oh yes with the tap shift you can start in whatever gear you want.

TapShifting is awesome.

trudawg660 03-30-2010 01:50 PM

for example im in 6th gear doing 60mph while in tap shift. i come to a complete stop without touching the shifter it suppose to downshift. the v6 downshift all the way back to 1st gear by itself. and the v8 downshifts to 2nd not first.

To your question ... The SS only downshifts to 2nd and the LT downshifts to 1st. If you want 1st in the SS you have to Tap it there yourself ...

i wonder why. if your using tapshift i doubt your really trying to save gas. but you can if you want to because it will let you shift up to 3rd gear from a dead stop

Just one of those things that GM did to improve on the overall mileage of the car as all OEM's have to maintain a minimum CAFE (Corp Avg Fuel Economy) rating over the entire line and every little bit helps in that regard.

To answer another question you had in your first post. I find the AFM very rarely engages when in M mode. And always engages in D or S.

Tapshift does only downshift to 2nd. It is is the manual.

RTFM!! LOL! ;-P

Does Tapshift mode rev on downshifts?

I can only base off of what my LT does, but the answer would be yes if downshifted manually ... But the computer will only let you do it within a certain RPM range. If the RPM is to high the computer denies the shift ...

One reason might be the very short distance you can move in first before shifting ---- about 3/4 of the way across most intersections. I find second gear works great for "normal" starts and if you use first gear --- be ready to shift in about 50 feet!
