Richmond 4.10's Incinerated!
4k on the gears, professionally installed, stock tires, in 100 pieces! Are you kidding me? Working with the seller now, hopefully I don't have to wait 2 months for my refund from Richmond. :mad0260::mad0260:

WTF! Making me glad I never did this but sorry for you. Hopefully they'll make it right.
this is such a common thread anymore it is ridiculous.
I was going to grab a set but there is no way in hell I would anymore. . . who would think Richmond and shit would be in the same sentence. |
wow, crazy....how much power were you running?
there's guys on the board that destroyed their 410's on a stock motor.
what break-in procedure did you follow? was there ever any whine? any wheel hop? what were you doing when they blew?
Not trying to place any blame on you, just getting some facts because I have the gears too. |
Stock motor with CAI and tune. During the 1-2 shift they exploded. They were professionally installed and lubed to Richmond standards. No wine whatsoever and they were broke in correctly.
I put it through the heat cycles recommended by the installer and a few guys on the forum. Light driving for 15 min four times with cooling in between. These are performance gears and should handle my power level with no problem. I was skeptical when I saw the sheer size difference in the gears. The stockers are way beefier. If I stay with an aftermarket gear, it will be no steeper than the 3.73. They seem to be comparable in size to the stockers.
If you look at 3.70's, you may want to look at the LPE gears. They are made by the original equipment gear supplier and made to OE specs. I had mine micropolished also. I had them set up by RPM Transmission. I like them alot!!
un-real,, hopefully all goes well with the refund,, too many failures of these gears, has to be a manufacturing problem
do a thread search guys. . this has happened MANY times already.
I'm about 4K on mine since install, so far no problems. Everytime I hear about a failure, I cringe and wonder when mine will go :(
I've been running with almost two qts of RP in the rear end, Pfadt's diff bushings and Spohn rear trailing arms and sway bar. Hopefully that is helping to keep things together. |
Man, I was seriously considering the 4.33's from Richmond, but after hearing this story....AGAIN and AGAIN....I think I'll wait until a different manufacturer comes out with some better gears. I'm not going to have anything installed in my car that I don't have total confidence in. Sorry this had to happen to you, but thank you for posting and letting the rest of us know....
We are no longer doing the gears due to just this. Every one has broken when doing hard launches. Not worth the hassel.
