As you can obviously see, the stripes beautifully compliment the Camaro's already drop dead gorgeous looks. I admit that I was hesitant in proceeding with the paint job...at first. Especially, since my dimensions were shot from the hip so to speak, and the ultimate outcome was uncertain. It's a leap of faith and a bit unsettling to submit a brand spanking new vehicle with perfectly good paint to the dismantling, scuffing, and sanding of a custom job. But during the entire process, David Jones and the great folks at Jones Collision Center reassured me and came through big time. I was blown away with their craftsmanship. Hats off to a job extremely well done; my wife and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully the dimensions I came up with, and this project's evolution will assist those who are riding the fence on whether or not to paint, or those in need of a few pointers. The bottom line, get it done the right way; it may cost a bit more, but you didn't skimp on your choice of car, so why start with the paint job.

So without further adieu, I present our very own personalized "Bumblebee" for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy...I certainly am ;)

Car looks great. Is yours a 1SS or 2SS? Noticed you did not have a SS emblem on the back.

Musclebee 06-02-2009 09:29 PM

Oops, just noticed you did says it was 2SS. Why did you take the emblem off the back?

Ranger 75 06-03-2009 06:58 AM

Looks great! I have an appointment to have my IBM white stripes painted the 16th of June.

Ristaze 06-03-2009 07:16 AM

Rumblebeess...How Long did it take them to do all the painting? Are the Measurements on the front and back the same?

As I mentioned in the opening post, the bowtie and SS emblems were removed from the trunk for clearcoat continuity (no tape/mask etc). Besides that, I'm not a fan of the current SS emblem design (slanted/white interior/raised ridges/and overall shape in general), I would have designed one with a more bold look that makes a statement befitting an SS badge (IMHO). In the event someone ever designs a large semi-blocked/semi-retro/chrome SS to replace the bowtie emblem, it will be a simple process for me to do. But for now, since there are mounting holes that need to remain covered, the bowtie was reattached. The rear SS emblem is simply staying off for now in hopes of the right design to come along (if I eventually replace the bowtie with an SS, I'd need to remove the other SS anyway). I'd also like to see matching ones for the grill insert, and quarter badge to go below the camaro on the side.

Besides, some unsuspecting stang may decide to press his/her luck by pulling up next to what is assumed a V6 equipped maro...heh, heh. :paddle:

The entire process took about 8 working days, from start to finish. To be fair, this was the shop's first camaro and it was a multi-step process that I constantly collaborated with, in order to make fine tune adjustments where necessary. So some of it was down time until I could personally look at the lay out. It was critical to check/double check and correct the taping process for precise lines/angles/measurements/symmetry that I would be satisfied with. Once the tape was all laid out to my liking and I gave the go-ahead to shoot, the actual painting process took about 5 days. Note: all pieces were removed and painted separately, so the R/I of parts has to be taken into account, then final buff/polish etc. The second camaro they are doing at present is expected to be finished in 5 days or less.

The front and back are not the same, except for the width of the centerline gap between the stripes. I listed my dimensions on the opening post.

oh I see, did not go back and read the original post, everyone has their own taste I like the SS badge. The car looks great. And won't those stangs be surprised when you leave them in the dust. lol

Beautiful car, congrats! Here's a few ideas for the back just for fun. First one is a black SS replacing the bowtie; the second shot shows it up close where you can see it matches the style of the BumbleBee stripes. Third one is if you just black out the bowtie. Fourth is the blacked out bowtie with a chrome SS in the middle.

Fun stuff; can't wait for my car to arrive!

One more; blacked out back with chrome SS.

Looking for something specific

Playing around with 'Word Art' this is the closest I could come up with for the "SS" design I am looking for. Note that the font is straight up-n-down instead of slanted. The edges are clean and unridged. The entire emblem is block looking and chromed. The dimensions I would like would be about 2 1/2" in height and maybe 6" in total width. I might even like it if the center (horizontally speaking) was slightly bowed out more than the top and bottom; say by 1/8" to 1/4" difference. Using this same design, have a smaller one for directly below the 'camaro' emblem on the quarter panel, and a similar large one to replace the bowtie up front like the retro SS camaros.

Here's what I came up with (not exact, but as close as I could get). If there are any custom emblem designers out there, let me know cause I'm definately interested:

The typeface I chose for my "what ifs" was extremely close to the one you posted. It's nearly identical to this one called Annonce:

http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/canadatype/annonce/

I had leaned it slightly over to the right but normally it's upright.

There's a couple places on the internet that have chrome letters available. This place has a couple of fonts that might be close enough, the ST or VK font.

http://youremblem.com/catalog/

Price is $2.99 for each S so $6 for the pair.

These guys will create just about anything you want but they're more expensive; although pricing drops quickly when quantities are ordered.

Here's what your SS looks like in Annonce:

All of those SS emblems you guys are making and/or shooping on look TERRIBLE. No offense at all.

Latest Transformation

Hey all,
We added some vinyls to Bumblebee's "gills" made by Autotrimdesign. I slightly modified the vinyls by trimming the cornered tops to be flat across the top so as to blend with the lines of the car. Nothing but positive reviews from everyone who has looked at them in person, and they had to get up close to know they weren't painted. Even then, they couldn't tell the vinyls had been custom cut by me. With the 'CAMARO' emblem on the front quarter, these vinyls give the rear some visual balance and really compliment the overall look. Inexpensive, easy to apply, and looks fantastic!

I know I'm late to the thread, but I am also looking to get my RY 2SS painted with Bumblebee's stripes - and since I'm not more than a few hours from Lemoore, I think I may go with the same guys - Jones Collision Center - I'll update with pics soon!
