Drone strikes again

Hey guys,

I have LT headers, highflow cats, magnaflow tru x pipe, and borla s-type mufflers and ever since I added the x pipe the drone has been horrible. Before I was able to cope with it just slightly coming in around 1600rpm's but now its so much worse at around the same rpms.

I've heard of ways like installing a J pipe to eliminate the drone effect and was wondering what your guys' thoughts were about it, how much it cost you, or if anything else has worked for you.

Thank you!

Curious, why did you go x pipe?

I wanted to do the resonator delete on my l99 and read that x pipe was a good choice for a tiny bit extra HP and torque.

The J pipe will remove drone if done properly. Our stock muffler is basically straight pipe with a j pipe. I would assume that the j would need to go downstream the borla to effectively remove drone. Hopefully someone has done this with your setup or similar and can confirm, but it seems like common sense to me based on the stock muffler downstream from the resonator.

Found this old thread with great info. This guy made j pipes upstream some glasspacks (I think) :\

You could switch to a resonated X pipe and get it back to where you were.

Resonated X pipe is the solution.

This is a pretty effective solution.

I did a resonated x pipe on my LS3, with only an outlaw axelback, and did not reduce the drone much at all. J pipes will do it. Get photos of the Solo ones and take to a good muffler shop. They can take two 180 degree sections per side, 2.25" diameter is fine, cut and weld to an S shape to the correct length(you need to give them that, about 28" or so) they cut a hole in your pipes right ahead of the mufflers, they will determine where to fit everything. My guy even fabbed up adjustable end caps so you can change the length depending where the drone is(rpm)
Cost me $150 lot and killed the drone, just exhaust sound now.

J Pipes are an excellent option. The Resonated X-didnt do much for me... just my $37 and change.
