Should I trade up?
 
Hi everyone I just have a few questions about trading in my 2010 Camaro 1LT w/ RS package, for a 2014 2LT w/ RS package.

First question is that my local dealership gave me a trade in offer of $15,000 for mine with 48,500 miles on it. With part of that paying off my current loan of $7000. Does this sound like a good amount? What have others gotten for theirs? Along those lines the tires on mine now are not too old, do you think they would up their offer any if I told them to keep the brand new Pirelli's from the new car?

Secondly I am really confused on the price they gave me for the new car. They said after my trade and the rebates it would be around $16,500. I know most 2LT's w/RS are about $31,000-$32,000. So that minus the $2500 rebate and minus the $8000 trade in amount is nowhere near the $16,500 amount they told me. Only thing I can think is that they forgot to figure in my loan payoff. Maybe I am just missing something or am confused.
(As a comparison they tried to get me into a 2014 2SS for around $24,000)

Lastly I have a few random questions. When you get a new Camaro it comes with an XM radio trial. I currently subscribe to XM can I put my paying subscription on hold until the trial ends then pick it up again?
I may have more questions soon.

Basically I would like input from anyone who has traded up like I am wanting to do. Thanks!

Maybe I should note that my current loan is not through the dealership, but the credit union I use.

The numbers look good to me.
$16,500 New car loan
+ $8,000 Trade in ($15,000 - $7,000 loan)
+ $2,500 rebate
= $27,000

The OP said the new car is $31,000 or $32,000 so the delaer is discounting the car by $4,000 to $5,000. ($31,000 - $27,000 = $4,000) That sounds like a good deal to me.

XM radio will credit the balance from the old radio to the new one if you call them and let them know you traded cars. You will also get to use the free trial service on thenew one.

Don't spend all that cash for the same car and performance you already have. At least find a used V8.

Test drive a SS and see how you feel. Talk to your credit union also about a loan, see how much they can give you and for what interest rate. The interest rates should be pretty low, so you might be able to get a good new V8 for a good payment.

Also, try to buy a new SS, never buy an used SS. They are like divorced women, they were let go for a reason.

I drove a SS and while fun, truthfully I just don't need a V8. Anyways they did a lot of interior changes since 2010 and that is what I am interested in, not performance.

If I were you I would still trade for an ss but the 2014 v6's have a little bit of a horsepower increase and the inside the is nicer.

BTW, for the XM subscription, I believe that you will have to cancel your current subscription. Your new XM will have a new account number when you activate it from what I remember when we did an "upgrade" on a different car.

I think you can transfer the radio ID to an existing account, but that is if you have multiple cars with XM. Sucks though that Sirius accounts can't be on the same ones as XM. Ford and Mazda vehicles can't be on the same account as a Chevy.

Everyone says to go for a SS but aside from the performance gains, which I am not interested in, there isn't any other major difference. Sure I like the hood and the bumper around the fog lights, but I am happy with my V6. Like I mentioned above though they did try to get me in a 2SS for $24,000.
As for why I am looking to upgrade, my warranty expires this month and I have had a few issues in the past. Plus a few rattles are driving me crazy and the fan is kind of noisy. Basically the newness of mine has just worn off, and I love the radio and HUD in the new ones.

They are playing the game
Or they don't yet know , or pretend that don't know that you still have a balance to be paid off
Make sure you tell them that you have that balance to be paid
But most likely they are doing the numbers to look good for you , then they will say , look we still have to payoff your loan

hello OP. i live in Olathe. Sounds like a good deal. Like you, the V6 was plenty of power for me. i dont race or track, and the V6 will exceed the speed limits on any highway as much as the v8 will. I added a CAI will will add a little more HP.
i have a 2LT vert, and yes, this level of interior (2LT or 2SS) has the leather, HUD, boston stereo. and with the newer cars, you get the touch screen, MYLINK too.

Then stick with the V6 , simple as that
But as I said above , take a good , really good look at their numbers
