A lot of people don't know this...It's shocking to me, really. Do you know why nothing in WalMart is made here? Because they ONLY Sell things at a price reasonable to them...not the producer or the consumer...so companies are forced to outsource in order to do buisness with them

Thats how they have always low prices, always...I'd like to wipe that fithy smile right of that happ faces face!

I find myself becoming more and more like my Dad everyday...(ut OH!)...who check's out every item he considers buying to see if it's MADE IN THE USA. :D

Especially with the recent news about Toyota surpassing GM, selling more cars in the first quarter, :mad: I find myself sick and tired of this.

He should go work at the docks, it looks like there are a lot of imports that need to be taken care of.


Why? Because Americans are expensive.

This is exactly why you see America becoming a more service oriented economy.

That was a good anecdote though.

This is what I love... Americans want things for low prices (Wal-Mart). The retailer goes to find a source of goods that they can buy from to sell to consumers for a low price and still make a profit. They end up with low-quality, low-price goods that people end up hating. I love it when people blame Wal-Mart for ruining America. No... Americans ruined America (and its economy) by demanding such low prices. Importing goods < Domestic goods.

Don't be so quick to pin anything on Wal-mart. Wal-Mart gets a bad rap a lot of the time (and justifiably so in most cases - ie low wages/benefits/etc). However, a lot of people overlook all of the good that wal-mart has done for this country.

Wal-mart alone has dramatically increased the spending power of lower and middle class Americans. It is not that Americans demand such low prices, it is that they need these lower prices on consumer goods to compensate for the increased prices on other things (ie healthcare).

Speaking of healthcare, Wal-mart has also increased the average consumer's ability to purchase percriptions with their $4 perscription program and they are in the process of putting in health clinics into 400 of their stores so that people can seek quality health services at an affordable price.

Yes, Wal-Mart procures a lot of goods that were made overseas, but they also sell a lot of goods that are made in the USA. I am just so tired of hearing people dog Wal-Mart without ever taking into consideration all of the good that this company has done for every local economy in America.

This country is far better off with Wal-Mart than it ever would have been without it.

Just a point of clarification, my rant above had nothing to do with buying imported goods versus domestic goods. I am a strong believer that we need to support our own people, and whole heartedly advocate buying goods made in the USA.

The problem with almost all Americans is, WE ALL THINK WE ARE WORTH 50 BUCKS AN HOUR no matter what job we do… Do you blame corporations for outsourcing jobs…

Don’t get me started on Unions, the one I am a member of is a 95% to 5%... That is, 95% of the time they fight for the wrong reason and 5% of the time the fight to benefit all the members as a whole…

Oh, and for the WAL*MART haters, if you don’t like them don’t shop there, if think they have unfair labor practices don’t work there… It’s as simple as that…

Your mazda was built (assembled) in Michigan with at least 90% of the parts made in Japan. Very little domestic content whereas, domestic autos have the same 90% of domestic parts thereby providing tier one, two and three jobs IN North America, not across the ocean.

Good find rock36, 65% Us/Canada Parts in my 6:w00t: . I wasn't blaming Wal-Mart, just using it as an example. And I really don't want to anger people, but I don't see how importing such a high level of goods can help America. Sure, specialization allows for effeciency, and we have limited resources in America, but the argument that they make things affordable just shows they have a lower income anyways, because of competition for jobs. Whatever, I make enough money to live a good life in college and try my hardest to keep the money I spend in our economy, helping the spending multiplier only makes for a healthier savings account.

Really liked the except. But the problem is bigger as others have pointed out. Buy American when you can. Unions and a thought of our own high worth have brought a lot of us way to high. Then we have some professions that make way more than they shoulD. for sticking an aluminum splint over the end of my mothers broken finger a doctor charged 1600$$$ that was less than a 30 min appointment.
