Reverse lockout? (manual transmission)
I'm new to driving a stick shift and honestly not that good at it yet (my first full day was Tuesday before last when my 2010 Camaro arrived)
My question is: if I'm accelerating down the road and going from 4th to 5th is there any sort of protection in place to keep me from accidentally going into reverse? To me it seems like 5th and reverse are awfully close and that could be a catastrophic mistake to make so I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone could answer my stick shift newbie question.... ....thanks guys.... |
I was worried about this to, and I have not had a problem, pretty sure there is a safety lockout. I have actually put it in fifth trying to reverse already.. You have to move it quickly to the right and then up to get into reverse but only at a stand still will it engage or a slight roll

There's an alarm if you try. The transmission makes a loud grinding noise.

the synchros should not allow you to put it in reverse when moving at speed in a forward direction

Yes, There is 2 solenoids on the trans, 1 is the CAGS solenoid and that is for the 1 to 4 shift and the 2nd is the Reverse lockout solenoid.
