Ok the ZL1 tires will be a soft compound. If they wear out as quickly as my CTSV then in 8,000 miles it will need it's second set of tires.

Will anyone buy a set of tires when they first buy the car to use a harder compound for the street and then use the factory tires for the track?

I sure do hope to get more than 8000 miles out of a set of tires.

Yeah that would get expensive real quick.

You'll be spinning a lot with a harder less sticky compound.

My C5 Z06 only got about 15000 out of a set of tires and that was no track days.
It was about 12,000 with a couple of track days.

The tires are sitting in a parking lot in QC right now and the temp has been in the 20s this week , wonder how they are holding up ???:chevy:

That kind of opens up a Legal Pandora's Box, doesn't it? On one hand, GM/Chevy states "in writing" that the GOODYEARS are not to be "stored" below 20°F OR driven below 40°F. I have a feeling that "stored" means w/o having 4120lbs spread over 4 tires. Normally, tire QC "issues" are dealt with by going through the tire manufacturer/representative's warranty coverage & exclusions. However, Chevy is "violating" their own safety warnings by storing the ZL1s outside in conditions that "can" damage the tires. GOODYEAR is off the hook on this one, but GM isn't. Should there be a FAILURE "event" that can be traced to these storage conditions, you can bet that litigation will be the 1st thing to cross some folk's minds. It is IRONIC, that in the name of QC... the structural integrity of a tire may come into question by GM's very own actions.

Think about that when you hammer that baby down the superslab at whatever speed you deem appropriate.

you will get about 7-8k at full grip IMO. they will probably last 12-15k before they are bald though.

My F1 supercars started to loose grip about 7-8k but I ran them around 15k but they were shot before that.

so if you want goo traction out of the hole I would not expect to ever get more than 10k or so out of a set of tires like this. if you run them till the legal limit they last longer though.

Sounds like two sets of tires cause I'm sure the Supercars don't come cheap

Gonna be hard to keep my heavy right foot off the floor, but at 2,500 smack-a-roos for a new set of F1's i'll find a way......hopefully :chevy:

By comparison, my ZR1 tires have 7K on them.....I dont track the car nor any standing burn-outs, but many WOT accelerations from a roll. Rears should be good till 15K miles....I think. I suspect ZL1 rubber will fair similarly.

My PS2 tires only lasted about 11,000 miles on my V

So far, I have 15,000 on my Continental Extreme DW with plenty of tread left.

Love the G/Y's but would gladly trade off a little higher end, hot, track tackiness for better ride, quieter, wet traction, street use. More wear would be a bonus. Cost is not first consideration.
The Michelins seem to be the leading contender?

Glad you posted about your contis. I put these on my Z this past Monday. We now have 3 - 4 inches of snow so it may be awhile before I can really drive them but am super pleased at the mileage you are getting.

You'll need a lot of luck finding this tire since Bridgestone doesn't make it.

onlinetires.com has the G:2's for $310 fronts, $340 rears. They actually just increased price, I bought mine one month ago for $290 fronts and $320 rears and that was before applying the $80 Goodyear rebate.

I ended up at America's Tire at $378 a piece for rears.

ItI have 5800 on mine right now and they look very goodstill. Only one autocross and the rest highway. I think they last longer in cooler climates. As i got it in october they have only seen 80 degees the weekend i was in scottsdale. Probably 6 to 8 32/nds left. I am thinking 12000. Seems accurate. About once a year for me.

i got 20k out of my first set of goodyears the Zl-1 came with. that was no track days and they were so bald i didnt dare put them on wet road.

For me I plan on going with Hankook V12. I don't track my car, only street and they are great on my SS.
