Back-up Camera mod possible?
I've seen a few vehicles that have the rear-view camera that projects into the rear view mirror. This is a very nice feature and one that would probably have some benefit for the Camaro. Anyone know how much one of these system would cost to have installed? Just curious.
Thanks. |
im gonna take a stab at this, but your gonna have to get the camera and a screen, the mod shop is going to have to fab up some type of mount for the screen, and my suggestions would be to put the camera in the middle of, or right below the bowtie. All that would probably be somwhere between 1-2 thousand

Ummm dont think so. You'd need a monitor of some sort. Since there's no monitor that comes with Camaro from the factory, we're pretty much screwed. There's some aftermarket rear view mirrors with little monitors in them but they look pretty cheap.
Best way to do it would probably be to find a small inconspicuous place to mount a monitor, after that, you could choose from the plethora of aftermarket options for cameras. If you have a great idea for location of the monitor, please share! |
You can get that kind of setup on the chevy Traverse. The dealer may be able to retro fit that system. The Traverse has On star so you'd still have access to it if they can make it work.

They now make wireless cameras that go on the rear licence plate bracket

yeah there is all kinds of aftermarket stuff out there that come with every thing you need
as for monitor location i would order a new visor from the dealer and mount it in the visor that way no one can see it until you flip down the visor |
I am pretty sure we will see this as an option on the Camaro in 2011. Perhaps there will be a chance to retrofit. I have seen the screen built into the rear view and the one I saw was pretty cool.

Not a camera but the manual talks about a feature with a series of lights for backing up. Anyone know if this is available?

Object Detection System or the Ultrasonic Parking Assistant. It is on page 8-41 in the manual. "The display is located in the center of the rear seat back filler panel trim and uses three color-coded lights to provide distance and system information." Not as good as a camera but an option. |
