I like working on it, but I hate HAVING to work on it to keep it on the road. Last month it was o2 sensors, axle bearings, oil change. This month it's going to be transmission mount, spark plugs (pretty sure my bad o2's fouled a few plugs), and transmission fluid change. In a one car garage. Shoot me now.

transmission mount shoulda been one of your first mods/repairs/upgrades/whatever.

what all is it doing now?

yeah. I'm just trying to spec you out parts, and I got off early yesterday so I didnt do much of anything.

first off skip the roller tip rockers, either go full roller or leave the stockers, save the money for the pushrods and spend it on rockers. that cam seems overpriced IMO. IIRC, you can get a custom grind for ~$350 or so. stock pushrods are capable of .650 lift, so that money could be spent elsewhere

Yeah, but doesn't the Crane 227 hold the cam only record for LT1s? That was the main reason I was looking at it. Sure, its a bit more expensive but it seems to be a proven part.

As for pushrods, I don't mind reusing the stocks I just figured since I was thinking of upping the rev-limiter to 6500 and the car has 114xxx on it, I might want to look into hardened pushrods. I think I might remove the crank from the parts list also though because upon further consideration, an aftermarket cast crank wouldn't be any better than the stock crank and I'd have to get it balanced anyway. Might as well just reuse the stocker.

P.S. - I can get the cam here for 335, which seems to be as good a deal as any of the other cams.

I thought I had taught you better than that. is your car going to be the new LT1 cam only record holder? the 227 is a good cam, in fact its one of the best OTC cams you can find. but remember that just because it works in a pure track car doesnt mean it will work as well for a weekend warrior dd

As for the pushrods, IIRC, 93 and 94’s came stock with hardened pushrods to begin with. And as far as hardened, the only real benefit for hardened pushrods is if you are running guideplates. Because the pushrod hardening is to keep the outside of the rod from grinding away to nothing against guideplates with NSA rockers.

you can up the rev limiter to 7k if you want. the stock bottom end of these cars is twice as strong as most people give it credit for.

Here’s what I was running in my 94Z with 12.5 cr
230 / 240 - .544/.576 - 110 LSA
with a stalled A4, full bolt-ons, handported heads/intake, and some spray
IIRC, I paid around $350 for that cam (somewhat custom grind) 4 years ago

another option
http://www.lingenfelter.com/sites/li...mationv1.3.pdf

and another option is Comp Cams XE 230/236 if you can find it. I've seen some here an there used go for less than $200

also, you need to get some good springs/hardware to compliment the cam as well. I was running 918's for a while till they started having failures (not my personal ones, but Comp started farming out the manufacture of their springs and less quality came about). I switched to PAC 1518s that are good to .650 lift. the 1218s are good to about .600 lift and the 918's are about .625 lift.

I didn't see anything listed on the springs you had selected on what their max lift was.

also... you should do this in the 4th gen section. lol

and find some heads or have yours ported to maximize the cam.

I don't want anything too large cam-wise. I'll look into that LPE cam. As for the springs, I found them in this thread: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt...ion-guide.html

Not sure on their max lift. I'll look that up also.

I'm not wanting you to go with the biggest donkey di*k cam you can. even mine wasn't the biggest around. mine was set up for 40/60 split of track and dd. tho it was nicknamed the ThunderFu*k II cam...lmao

you have the benefit of the m6 that you dont have to fight as hard for idle characteristics or cam surge with a converter.

Yay for clutch!

Also, that LPE cam looks like it would work as well. Also, those crane springs have an install height of 1.750 and a coil bind of 1.080, so they should be good for at least .600 or .650 of lift. Since I wouldn't be running anywhere close to that, they should be fine.

Zabo's '00 T/A Build Thread

With the resurrection over, I decided to have the previous thread locked and relaunch the build thread in this thread.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ndExploder.jpg

Long short of my ownership:

- Found it wandering lots back in June 2010
- Placed a deposit, and swept it off the lot within 5 days of it's arrival there.
- Said dealership was a Ford stealership
- Needed Brakes and other minor work from sitting (29,718 miles)
- Drove trouble free (and learned to drive stick in the process) THROUGH THE WINTER of 2010/2011
- April 2, 2011 the car was totaled in a drag racing accident (sanctioned IHRA track).
- Secured a loan on the verge of bankrupting myself and rebuilt the car.
- Bill: $10,300; paid $10,395 for the car.
- Replaced door emblems with NOS 1998 Sport Gold Metallic emblems
- Rear bumper cover given the CETA (Collectors Edition Trans Am) blackout treatment
- Replaced the factory rear after discovering that the Torsen was KIA 10/2011
- Installed WS6 short stick, custom made 'Bandit shifter knob' from a 1977 Special Edition Trans Am, and TSB Rumbler Exhaust
- Purchased and installed AP tips, tucked TSP to gain a few inches in clearance
- Dropped the car off at Backstreet Performance in Medina and had the LTs and ORY installed, as well as the EGR pulled. Had them also reset the car for the lack of EGR/Cats/O2s

To do list:

- Weld up Cutout section and pick up/wire up an electric valve
- Purchase/install a Y pipe brace
- Install Prothanes
- Get a Daily Driver!
- GET A BETTER PAYING JOB!
- Pick up a set of Speedlines and widen rears to 11" for 315 rears
- Remount old tires on current PA6s for spare/storage use
- Put it away..

Down the road a few years:

- Strip the whole car
- Reweld the core support ('05 accident)
- Realign/Reweld (4/2/11 accident)
- Build/Swap the rear for road racing
- Build the transmission
- Respray in a custom factory Maple Red/Gold Flake mix
- Overhaul/breakdown and clean engine
