stupid nature. keep your animals away from my car
So I'm driving down a hwy in south AL and a possum decided he wanted to check out my car. So being dark hilly, curvy road and me doing 75 was not a good combo to come across a possum in the road. Well I know my car is repairable and I'm not, so I opted to not swerve around it and just powered through. Stoped at next service station to check the damage . I will post some pics in the morning of the damage.
Who wants to guess how bad it is. ( I won't even know the full extent till tomorrow when I clean up the mess) |
You may have damaged the plastic molding/splitter on the bottom of the fascia. It probably won't be that big of deal. You're right not to swerve to avoid an animal. If you hit an animal, it goes down as comprehensive. If you swerve and hit something else, not only is the damage worse, but it counts as a collision and goes against you on your insurance rates.
Worthless possums. I have an uncle who swerves to hit them when he's in his truck. |
Only thing is im lowered with a ZL1 bumper. Think zombie plow. That's about what it looks like right now
|
Looks like youve got a rideskinz bumper cover... Thats fiberglass..... Your gonna need a new one if the damage is severe, which it probably is... 75mph? Yea... New bumper time..
EDIT: Just read about your ZL1 bumper, might be salvageable if he bounced off your splitter.. But 75mph and a 10lb possum... Might need a new bumper. |

post a before and after picture of the cleanup |
Just be glad it wasn't an armadillo. You did the right thing - not swerving. Glad you're okay - sorry 'bout the car.

That's gonna be a messy cleanup. :yikes:

Just in case you need - recipe for possum stew: :)
1 possum 1 onion 1 clove garlic clarified butter olive oil (enough to brown meat without becoming dry) 1 cup dry red wine flat or field mushroom, sliced (big meaty ones) 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (a mix of rosemary, thyme, marjoram, dill and parsley) 1 tablespoon tomato puree 1 cup dark beer, eg black mac, monteiths 1 cup brown possum stock 1 tablespoon marsala Directions: Skin and bone the possum (use only the best meat for the casserole, ie: the strip loins and hind quarters, cubed). Reserve the carcass and trimmings for stock. In a heavy pan, heat the clarified butter and oil. Sauté onion and garlic. When onion is clear, remove to casserole. Dust the cubed possum with flour and brown in batches. Add to casserole. Melt a little more clarified butter and sauté bacon and mushrooms. Remove to casserole De-glaze pan as necessary with red wine- add this to casserole together with herbs, ground pepper, tomato purée, beer and marsala. Stir, cover and cook in slow oven for 2-3 hours, adding more possum stock if necessary. |
Man you really have some crazy unlucky situation on your bumper.. First RideSkinz and now your zl1 bumper... Lol I'm so scared to drive my car now especially on base.. Luckily I'm overseas now so my car is sitting cozy in the garage
