Chevy Camaro in the Snow

Hey everyone, I am looking at purchasing a 2013 1ls camaro, and i live in Cleveland ohio. I was going to use this as my everyday car and was wondering if ayone has any feedback, or if it really sucks to drive these in the snow. I would be purchasing snow tires for the winter, but was wondering if anyone drives theres year round and how it is. thanks jake

From the research that I have done, it should be fine in the snow as long as you are smart about driving and have a good set of dedicated snow tires.

I just bought my 1LS for Daily Driving, snow included.

Have you experienced it in the snow yet? and if so how was the experience

Drive mine year round as it's my only vehicle. You need winter tires for sure, make sure to get 4 and not just 2 and you should be fine. I have Blizzak WS-70s on a set of the heritage wheels.

I'm in Pittsburgh and as long as you put winter tires on it she drives fine. Its still a RWD car so it isn't ideal, but the nearly even weight balance, stabilitrac, traction control...this isn't a 1970 vehicle. People drove before FWD was even invented, it can be done.

This was me 2 years ago:

And why do you have to post this stuff now haha!?!?! I JUST put my summer wheels on 2 days ago. We're done with these snow threads for now!

Haha I know! but trying to talk my dad into letting me get one, need new car for commuting, but he said I have to show him feedback before I buy one

My personal opinion is that they're not that bad as long as you know how to drive in the snow and you get snow tires, which you stated you're going to get anyway.

I wouldn't go trying to plow through several inches of fresh powder, but once the roads are either mostly clear or at least packed down, it does OK.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is a huge difference between driving the automatic Camaro in the snow and the manual Camaro in the snow.

My parents own a 2LS (automatic) and they do not have winter tires - my dad had no problems getting around in the snow, he'd put it into manual mode and then shift it to take off in 3rd gear.

I, on the other hand, own a 1LS (manual) and I do not have winter tires either. I had no issues getting around town in the snow because having the clutch makes it a lot easier to "feel" the road and how slick it is. I drove normally -- took off in 1st gear, etc. I had no issues, but we haven't gotten a lot of "big" snow falls in the Detroit, MI area.

I have a 2011 1LT I drive every day in Upstate NY, just turned 50,000 miles. I have an extra set of LS steel wheels with Blizzak snow tires. I have no problems driving it in the winter, it does really well. Several people on Camaro5 run them in the winter with snow tires.

You will also note several comments on Camaro5 about how bad Camaros are in snow by people who either have tried with their summer P-Zero tires (fail) or who haven't tried the current generation Camaros in snow with snow tires on.

So yes, it will be fine if that's what you decide to do.

My V8 SS was fine with a set of dedicated snow tires:

My ZL1 goes no where, tried it, lol. I just call out of work, no biggie.

I personally didn't, bought it just 2 weeks ago.

Just going on what I saw all winter long in these winter threads :)

I have a stupid question. What does taking off in 3rd gear do? I drive a v6. Does that matter?
