Kooks Headers Vs SLP Headers?

Okay im on the verge of buying some headers real soon like tomorrow soon and would like to know which one of these two headers would be the ideal choice to go with and why? If i get the TSP (not SLP I had to correct) it will be new and online, but if i get the Kooks it will be used from a member on here im planning on buying it from and leave close to me for a real good price. Thanks for the help in advance

Kooks, quality, fit - your welcome!

+1 for kooks! Assuming they are in great shape. Proof is in the results. Hundreds of cars here run them, and not too many slp

I bought my KOOKS used. Had them ceramic coated for $200 and they were perfect. I would go with the KOOKS since they'll probably be cheaper.

BTW: nothing wrong with 1 3/4" but I'm pretty sure SLP only sells 1 3/4". I'm guessing the used KOOKS are 1 7/8" since 95% of people buy them in that size.

SLP has 2" headers which is the ones i am looking at also and the kooks are
1 7/8" but i just found out the kooks are not going to come with the mid pipes or Hi Flow Cats so i will have to purchase that separate for another $280 dollars

any one have any numbers or what the SLP or Kooks Headers put out once installed and Dyno?

SLP does not make 2" headers, they only sell 1 3/4"

In terms of comparing Kooks, and SLP, SLP is more mid range, and Kooks is top of the line.

Here are some differences-
  • Kooks come in 1 3/4", 1 7/8", 2" and stepped. SLP only comes in 1 3/4"
  • Kooks is 304 Aircraft grade stainless (will not rust). SLP is 409 stainless, which can rust, but will not rust through. To prevent this, they coat them from the factory.
  • Kooks has merge spikes, and merge collectors which add power. SLP does not.
  • Kooks has hand CNC ported exhaust ports for a perfectly smooth transition into the header. SLP does not.
  • Kooks uses a one piece mid pipe, and ball and socket collector. No clamps in the whole system except the factory catback clamp. Not the same with SLP.
  • Lastly, if you price shop, you will find the price is not all that different.

Well im on SLP web site right now looking at the 2" inch headers not sure if im tripping but i do think they make 2 inch headers. Here is the link

That is a link to Texas Speed, not SLP. Texas Speed sells 2" headers, which are their own house brand not SLP.

Unless this is some monster I would run 1 7/8" best compromise for cars to give low and TQ and high end HP.

I have SLP and love them. They are holding up great. My brother has Kooks on his 2011 Camaro and they rattle and look like sh*t already. He just ordered SLP headers and can't wait to get the Kooks off. He called Kooks direct and all they told him is sometimes you get bad ones. I wouldn't but anything from these a$$holes..

Dexman1349 10-16-2013 10:42 PM

I remember reading here on Camaro5 that essentially all 1 7/8" headers perform the same (within the last couple of weeks no less). After that it's just who wants to spend more for the show aspect. If you're like me and never pop the hood unless you're changing the oil, you're just as well off with a set of Stainless Works or Stainless Power headers for almost half the price of Kooks...
