Rumor - Chevy Camaro SS to Get More Power !

According to GMAuthority, the Camaro SS is set to receive a power bump. Their sources are indicating that more power will be coming to both the LS3 and L99 Camaro SS.

The power bump is said to be a reaction by GM to the new Mustang 5.0's quicker quarter mile time. No exact power increase numbers were quoted or provided, but the increase in power would begin with the 2012 Camaros.

This would make the second major change coming to the 2012 Camaros, in addition to the expected revamped and improved interior.:thumbup:

let the speculation run rampid!!!

DarthNacho08 10-24-2010 01:20 AM

I heard they finally fixed the problem they were having with the flux capacitor, it should be good for another 50 hp

ffrcobra_65 10-24-2010 01:24 AM

cool. should consider hp increase for the V6 as well to keep up with the lighter 2011 Mustang V6.

the power has always been there we are just certifying it now! Think they will use this line again and everyone will have to get new h.p. stickers?

I wonder how they are going to work it into the rear seats. Guess they weren't good for much anyways.

And there won't be much of a decrease in rear visibility.

more like 65HP after a tune

LimaCharlie 10-24-2010 01:28 AM

Interesting. I had a feeling there would be a power bump in addition to the new interior for 2012. I'm guessing the power increase will be from a revised intake/exhaust system and new computer tuning. I think the LS3/L99 will remain the same internally.

I'd expect a bump in MSRP for 2012 too.....

khabboub 10-24-2010 01:35 AM

i think that the V6 camaro need a power bump, or a weight decrease.

daphatgrant 10-24-2010 01:46 AM

Huh, interesting. I wonder what they will be changing if they are keeping the same engines.

Gunsmoke 10-24-2010 01:48 AM

My thoughts exactly, on paper the mustang is only a little faster so I doubt GM will go way out of the way to beat it. I have ran a few 2011 5.0s and have beat them and all I have are long tube headers w/ high flow cats, LMR CAI, and muffler delete so it wont take much for GM to be able to say its faster.

Makes you wonder how much further they'll push the SS till it hits Z28 territory? We're at 426hp now Do they go to 450hp? We know the SRT-8 Challenger is getting a kick too to a much needed (in it's case) around 475hp. Do they match that at around 460-75hp? Then would the Z28 be at the assumed 556hp or would they push it higher? Especially since the new vette will be coming with it's own improvements approaching it's numbers won't be an issue. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is getting nuts! Glad I already bought my car. At least I don't have to deal with whether or not I should wait. lol On top of all this is what about the looming economy standards? GAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I'm going to bed now.

TaylorRyanSS 10-24-2010 03:03 AM

:happyanim:

It will probably no more than 450 hp since the Z28 will be coming out.

believe it or not, there are a ton of variables, including driver skill .. specs on paper doesn't guarantee anything : )

If specs on paper dont guarantee anything, then how come GM QUICKLY had the V6 "certified" at 312hp instead of leaving it alone at 304? GM will probably only bump the HP enough so that they can advertise a better 0-60 and 1/4 mile times then the mustang wich wont take much. Specs on paper mean alot to manufacturers.

a_Username 10-24-2010 04:04 AM

Awesome! :D I'm wondering if they will try to equal out the L99 relative to the LS3, or will there still be a decent margin of difference between the two...

CamaroScotty 10-24-2010 05:39 AM

Someone should post what the LS3 makes out of the crate..... But taking 426HP on paper and making it 440 won't make the car any faster.

And if they do it to Camaro, Corvette has to have a similar fate.

But that would make no sense considering they sighted the 1/4mile times as a reason for the bump. A re-certification would do nothing for performance

Scott@Bjorn3D 10-24-2010 05:42 AM

Well to really beat the Mustang just give us 3.73 gears from the factory and problem solved. Then on paper they should be the same with just that change.

I could see the Camaro going to 440HP and the Vette going to 450. The Vette needs something to boost its sales considering it is almost in it's 7th year on the market with the C7 like 2 years away.

The SS already beats the GT.

The V6 is the one that loses to the Mustang V6. I agree that its the gearing. One look at the top speeds difference wil tell U somethings up.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...x/YUPPUERS.jpg

Mustang V6 Top speed 113MPH
Camaro V6 Top Speed 157MPH

Whorable MPG1975 10-24-2010 06:16 AM

I'm gonna LMFAO if it's only like a 5 hp increase... LS3 426hp to 431hp and L99 400hp to 405hp. I hope they add a litlle more oats to it like they did the Challenger and hopefully the Z will have a few extra horses laying around somewhere that the Caddy doesn't have too.( exhaust, bigger charge cooler, etc.) We'll see..... just don't put the stupid tail lights and crappy side mirrors on the 2012 or I ain't buying it.:rules:
