GM slows production at plants due to winter storms. Camaro affected.

Seems like crappy weather causing road closings has made GM slow or stop production at some of the Canadian plants. The Camaro is one of the affected models. So if yours is on order you might have to wait a bit longer. :(

If you think early winter weather is causing you headaches this season, you should hear what General Motors and Ford are putting up with. The companies have seen production slow in at least seven of their manufacturing facilities in Canada and the Midwest thanks to road closings. According to Bloomberg, The General was forced to either slow or stop production of at least eight models, including the Chevrolet Equinox, Camaro and Impala as well as the Cadillac CTS and STS. And Ford hasn't fared much better – the Blue Oval has brought production of at least six models to a stop.

Among the FoMoCo casualties of this week's winter wonderland? The Flex, Edge and Explorer, but work was also held up on the Lincoln MKT and MKS. Additionally, the slowdown may impact the automakers' fourth-quarter results, since most carmakers record their revenue when vehicles are assembled at the plant.

Interestingly enough, Chrysler, which operates facilities in Canada, has apparently not had to slow or stop production because of the weather. Likewise, the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio is operating normally so far this season.

MY dealership warned me ahaed of time about this issue so, I've factored that into my wait.....doesnt make it any easier but.....I've waited this long I guess I can continue to wait.

GM SLOWS PRODUCTION AT OSHAWA PLANT

Is it because of the snow ? or is it because of the Holidays ?

I worked for General Motors for 30 yrs and I have never seen them shut down for snow, but they do shut down alot of plants for the Holidays normally between Christmas eve and New Years, and some plants longer.

Relax all who are waiting for their new cars, everything is back to normal. Only lost about a shift . Problem was a highway closing due to snow whiteouts and drifting. Had over 300 vehicles stranded for as long as 24 hours, but all is well now and the parts are flowing again.

yes we are back to into the full swing of things again.

We were only working for 5 1/2 hours for the past week and 2 days, last three including tomrrow are full 8 hours.

see what next week brings before xmas shutdown.

I had a chat with one of the "higher ups" at the GM plant in Oshawa about why they don't have auto plants in the South.

Humidity.
And salt water.

Both factors = EXTREMELY bad conditions for building cars. So much so that the cost of air conditioning the entire plant far outweighs any problem with snow in the north. Granted, their test was done in Miami, but they said smaller tests were done across the South with similar results.

Better cold than rusted.
