lsx engine blows up--update

-------------------------------------------------------UPDATE------------------------------------------------------------------

its official. gm called me and said they will do nothing. they even refuse to look at the block to see if its defective!

even if there was not a warranty on the engine it should be replaced if its defective. gm does not even want to look at the block to see if its defective. they prefer to hide their heads in the sand.

fact one: dr jamie meyer of "gm performance parts" states in print that if you put a power adder on the lsx-454 you can make 1300 hp.

fact two: dr jamie meyer states IN PERSON to jannetty racing its ok to put a supercharger on the lsx-454 to make our power goals.

fact three: the lsx-454 cylinder wall cracked like egg shells at only 912 hp.

Wow man that really sucks. I would be pissed!!!

Keep at them, according to the warranty they advertise on those engines it has to be damage caused by the mods you put on. A defective block isn't caused by modding it out.

That sucks... And your right, that engine is suppose to be bad ass and withstand that type of power, but damn that is a lot!

Give the better business Bureau a call. When I was having brake issues the got farther in a week than I did in 4 months

Wow, that sux...

RAYSRT8 01-23-2011 11:16 AM

That stinks... Maybe GM should have went belly up if that's how they handle their warranty issues.

Kahdir 01-23-2011 11:34 AM

I was wish there was a nationwide TV show that focuses on performance parts *cough* PoweBlock TV *cough* that would report the story to potential GM Performance Parts customers... and at the end they could chain the block to a boat as an anchor :D
I know of at least one coworker (diehard Chevy fan) that would not have gone with his LSX-454... and one coworker's father just grenaded a LS7 (too aggressive cam ) that considered the LSX.

Unreal bro, any updates on the new install ?

Blueclyde 01-23-2011 11:56 AM

Wow, that really sucks. Looks like you put a lot into that and a failure like this can surely set you back a bit. Sounds like it was truly impressive while it lasted.

I have been around engines for my entire career and as much as this sucks for you I can see why GM doesn't want to look at it. Warranties are not guarantees, and I think most people really misunderstand how they work. I am not even sure what kind of warranty GM provides on performance long blocks/crate engiens but I'm certain whatever it is centers around defects in material or workmanship. In the case of a long block/crate engine GM has no control over the application. Sounds like you had some heavy mods to create that kind of power.

When a catastrophic failure like that occurs it is almost never due to a defect. I have a lot of experience with GM engines and I can tell you they are very rarely defective. In my career I have seen a dozen or so catastrophic failures and not a single one can be attributed to a defect.

When you are talking about a boosted application where the customer entirely controls the application and calibration of spark and fuel there is no way they can be held responsible.

I know it sucks. Sorry to hear about your problem and the issue you have with GM but you really can't blame them for not wanting to look at it. The return and inspection of an engine costs money and they aren't going to spend it to draw a conclusion they already know.

all the parts are in except for the rhs block and je pistons.
the news is that my tranny is being beefed up'ed in anticipation of the 1200 horse power (at the crank). billet mainshaft and other goodies.

MaRoFreK 01-23-2011 12:05 PM

All I can say is WoW!! Sorry man that sucks

daveagogo1 01-23-2011 12:09 PM

Man that sucks. That LSX should have been able to handle 912HP no question. Not surprising they won't even discuss the situation.
