A lot of complaints that the Camaro seems very large.

A lot of the articles I've read in magazines and online, along with many, many posts from people in this forum mention that the Camaro feels really large. I simply don't agree with that, to me the car seems just right. I have a full size Yukon XL and that feels like a big vehicle. Being a little larger I think helps the ride in the Camaro. I rented a Mustang a couple of years ago and that car beat the living hell out of me. Horrible riding car, cramped, and uncomfortable seating. The Mustang felt small and cheap.

Why do people think the Camaro feels big?

Bigger is better?

ffrcobra_65 02-23-2011 05:47 PM

It feels big because it is heavy. Driving my SS then driving my GT500 is like night and day. You are right, I feel beat up when driving the GT500 because of the SVT suspension and solid feel...which is how I like it. The SS feels coasty to me but I expect that because of its heft. You can make it feel solid with suspension upgrades but doesn't change the fact that it is heavy.

INTIMIDAT3R 02-23-2011 05:51 PM

Yes the Camaro is large...

Large and in Charge baby!!! :headbang:

lets_go_bills 02-23-2011 05:56 PM

It's big car. Heavy too. It's also awesome.

2010SLVRBULIT 02-23-2011 06:01 PM

..compared to what, a not-so-Smart car? yep, avoid the subcompact parking stalls..

1BADLS3 02-23-2011 06:02 PM

The Camaro is a god damn tank. And it can do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. I don't see a problem with that.

Want a small sports car? Buy a Miata!!! :D

I came from a G8 GXP (and a GTO before that). The Camaro feels lighter and more nimble. Even though technically the weight is the same, the suspension rides a lot better. Ridewise, the G8 was a step up from the GTO, and I think the Camaro is another step up from the G8.

throughout the history of the camaro and mustang, the camaro has always been a heavier car.
More of it to love.....

JUISSD 02-23-2011 06:31 PM

It doesn't seem large, it is large. The dimensions on this thing are huge. I don't mind though, I like it.

OUR72GTO 02-23-2011 06:40 PM

150,000 buyers did not think it was a problem.

happycamper 02-23-2011 07:05 PM

Yes, it is large, but we still bought it and we love it.

Capthowdy 02-23-2011 07:11 PM

Big is good heavy is not ...I wish it were a bit lighter...say 400 pounds or so...still love it though..just have to add more power to overcome her blubber....

Sean_W 02-23-2011 07:13 PM

I thought it was large when I first saw it in person, but I was comparing to the concept I saw earlier that year. In person, the concept seemed very small.

E.T. 02-23-2011 07:18 PM

I'm getting used to it, but it's definitely bigger and heavier than my old car. The thing does seem to be built like a tank, but it would be nice if it were a lot lighter. The V6 would be a rocket, and you SS folk would be hitting ludicrous speed (maybe even plaid):sm0:

mikeSS 02-23-2011 07:37 PM

So when are you selling yours?

BackinBlackSS/RS 02-23-2011 08:01 PM

Define a lot of complaints. If you really researched it, you would find it is a very small percentage of people that this bothers. This car looks great, handles great and rides really, really great!!

and looks so much better than the mustang.

VR Baron 02-23-2011 08:39 PM

Yes large and heavy but I like it. To many people nit pick everything. It is what it is and we all knew it when we bought it.My 98 back then was considered to heavy also, at 3450 lbs. When I look at the two the 98 seems small and more sports car like. How times and perceptions change and at the same time stay the same.
