Z/28: Now...or '16?

This just in, via GM Inside News, the Gen-6 Camaro will bow as an MY-'16. Perhaps as soon as early CY '15. And apparently there will be a DI 6.2L.

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...2016-a-107703/

Combined with the smaller ATS-sized platform, sounds like the future makings of a badge-worthy ZEE, potentially...

Will we have to wait that l-o-n-g to see a ZEE?

Stay Tuned...

ShnOmac 12-21-2011 03:11 PM

Well if I have to wait that long to own a Z/28 I hope they make it look just like the 5th Gen....

1BADZL1 12-21-2011 03:14 PM

what? No Poll?
5 more years....
that would be a long 5th gen run... just sayin..

PAUL SS 12-21-2011 03:16 PM

That fits my schedule.

Not really. It'll be released in 2015 as a 2016 model. We're about to go into CY 2012 and the 2013 MY. So it's only three years off.

36 MONTHS? For a smaller Camaro. Likely, more road noise. Yes, superb performance but without the current road feel/comfort. And, will the new platform in a Z28 be as hard to get "when" it is introduced as the ZL1 is now? Many of you could be waiting to chase a hard to get mirage. I'm taking delivery of what i "KNOW" is here now! Just for the record, I LOVE Z28. If it were out "now", and it had only 480-505 normally aspirated HP, I could easily have gotten it instead of the ZL1 and been very happy. My main point here, is, the long wait to Z28 may be met with fleeting realities similar to ZL1 availability. Dunno. Not to mention price increases between now and then. It may cost as much to get a Z28 in 36 months as a ZL1 costs now. (plus Im getting too old to wait folks - another story)

Edit: PS, my order is at code 3000 today, 12-21-11

But in all seriousness... I am sure that chevy does know what everyone wants..and that being a Z/28 in some shape or fashion.

It's a 2016 model. Meaning it will be go into production sometime in 2015. Think...the 2010 Camaro went into production in CY2009.

So 2013, 2014, 2015. Three years off.

On January 2nd, 2012, manufacturers can "legally" commence 2013 Model Year production, OK? So, theoretically, on Jan. 2/15 (36 months and 11 days from now), GM "could" start makin' '16 Camaros.

Now, you've used up you requisite "personal attention" time...ADD medication is available from www.paymesomeattention.com ...

Isn't it time for you to start a new post or poll over at that other Z thread?

spyderbuddy 12-21-2011 04:21 PM

I heard the new Z28 was going to be a twin turbo V6.

I heard it was going to be FWD.... there is a thread about it around here somewhere.......

FenwickHockey65 12-21-2011 04:57 PM

I heard a Duramax engine option.

Gramps69Z 12-21-2011 05:26 PM

I heard they were going to change emblems and engines with a ZL1.

And.......add a different hood.

Gramps is gonna be ridin' in style with an early run, low number ZL1!

I don't see the point in waiting

Cam#7 12-22-2011 09:00 AM

Well, it sure was nice to see that many of us were right on about the Gen6 coming in the 2016 MY considering the next generation Mustang being a 2015, CAFE standards and the ATS needing another plant buddy.

It seems now there is more than enough ample time to get a profitable Gen5 Z/28 in the market. GM has said in this forum before to expect something new about every 6 months. I think once the ZL1 is being built and more details on the C7 Corvette engine comes out, we'll see the Z/28 name come to glory again as mid 2013 model with the new Corvette engine. Now we should see a mid-model refresh for the 2013 or 2014.

I agree, I love the car now, I bought a 2012 2ss 45th, I know now that I love this car. Would I love a z28 more, yes of course, however the 2016 model may not be as nice as this model, sure it will be faster, but it may not be nicer, its all relative. There may even be a z28 in 2013 or 2014 or maybe the last year 2015 they will do it with an LS7 to boost sales, no one really knows. But I would rather be in the position where I have to consider trading in a car I love for a car I would love more than to have missed the boat. I'm sure there were lots of people who said don't buy the 69 camaro, wait for the refresh, it will be that much greater in the 70's. I bet those who waited wished they had purchased.

I've often thought that. Just because it's newer doesn't mean it's better. Oh yeah I'll take a 69' over a 70' any day.
