def. a v8. it should be between the ss and zl1. maybe a small FI v8 like a SC 5.3L

Hey Z28 Guru's (we know who you are) I put up this thread with the catchy title for those new to this section who have little to no idea what a Z28 was or should be. Please embrace it for that reason...to teach.

Hmmmmm, I'll bite. The Z-28 was the face of the GM Camaro. Who didn't want one back then? Tire and rim de jour from your most favorite Lingenfelter, GM, or other cottage GM supplier to meet the traction and control issues of the car. A low dosage of emblems, monikors, or in one's face announcements. No leather or embroidery. No MRC....just shorthend, tuned coils with adjustable shock valving. 4,200 or 3800 GVW will not make any difference to me. It's a production car. Not a flat out track car. Pedders and Lingenfelter make a L-28 for that. Production cars need some size to handle all the real world street drivability issues. It's a better overall ride having some weight cushion with the varying roadways flucuations we will encounter. Rear special diffuser and front splitter, with ground FX package and rear spolier. Cold air induction. <I think I read 24" vertical above the ground is optimal for air intake?> OnStar yes. Bad ass sterieo Hell Yes!. Other than that, I'm good to go. A loudmouth 3" SLP type low restriction exhaust system, sans the dual mode. Can I order it now???? :thumbsup: :chevy:

A great handling Camaro with enough power to hold its own in a straight line. Excess weight should be avoided, particularly for the engine.

One way I like to think about it is that if the ZL1 is the Camaro equivalent to the ZR1, then the Z28 should be the Z06 equivalent.

The Z28 should be a car that can blow the doors off a Mustang Boss 302 on the road course. Of course the Boss 302 also beat the GT500 on the road course as well, so I would imagine the Z28 should beat a ZL1 too, but the ZL1 get the win in the straight line quarter mile.

Vacancy lights are on at Wixom for the LS7, let's order them up. From the pics and relased details about the ZL1 rear axle housing, axles shafts etc..., I'd say grab them up from the parts bin. Trans...etc..., modified TR 6060 MG9 from the ZL1. Why bother to invest R&D $ when it's been already done. That's the beauty of GMPP and Chevy design and engineering. Chevy Runs Deep. The only thought I can come up with beyond the already shelf available hardware, would be tinkering with the tranny gearing and rear axle ratio to optomize screw spin and keep the driveline within the power band for the ultimate factory road racing experince. Granted EPA, MPG, and associated luxury taxes...etc...prohibit fully unleashing the beast. I say unleash the beast. Make 3,500 units and we will gladly pay the fine. :thumbsup: :chevy:

Body style-TF3 minus the ricey spoiler. Basically a 1LE with a tweaked LS3. Outfitted with LS trim package should start at 40k, 2SS at 44k. Also a new style rim and spoiler.

Interesting thoughts. T3 hood would not be practicle for a N/A motor. I like cold fresh air, ducted cold air intakes should be located at the optimal locations. That hood will not serve any legitimate purpose to achieve that end. Sans the rear wing. ZL1 style dove tail or equivalent rear spolier with special rear diffuser and front splitter with F/X package a must <ala ZL1>. Specially designed wheels....why not? Cad Cam now a days can make anything from computer to lathe. I like the look of CF though...it is soooo mesmerizing...! :thumbsup: :chevy:

Great thoughts in your reply, lots of other good thoughts in this thread. Absolutely the rear gears and tranny ratios need to be optimized, about the only thing I see that's not already in the Chevy parts bin is Z/28 emblems.

I don't see much else that is needed, the Chevy parts bin is overflowing with options to use! A refresh of the first gen. Z/28 would do it for me, I'm sure there are plenty of other ideas out here though.
